An actual QB coach... amazing I know.

yeah, it's amazing how position coaches can make a difference...

we are about ready to hang our dc for his lack of blitzing calls and schemes...

we have been very fortunate, sooo far...

Lack of pressure on the QB has been a significant problem for our D for the last 2 years. I will say though, we have seen some improvement the last 2 weeks. I worry about Braxton though. He is exactly the kind of QB that gives Bo fits.

Come on josh, that's a little bit off the mark. Tim Beck was the QB for his alma mater Central Florida and is the QB coach for NU, as well as the OC, and Joe Ganz is in daily and game situational coaching stints with Taylor. Beck conferred regularly with Steve Calhoun, who also coaches Washington's QB Price, over the summer. Calhoun also coached up Bret Hundley over the summer. Go figure.

Beck isnt a great teacher of the QB mechanics. Same with Joe, we need a guy like Calhoun on staff.

How does that happen? He'd have to replace which coach?

  • Buckeye fan here....

1st....I was rooting for Nebraska vs. Wisky last week....congrats on a good win and making Wisky's frat boy coach pout a little more.

I expect a tough game this week; but have to like the 8 PM start and homefield advantage.

Score prediction: Ohio State 27, Nebraska 23

Players of the game; Miller, Martinez

I feel good about our team's ability to stay focused and overcome challenges.

I'm worried about getting consistent defensive pressure on Martinez to force him into bad decisions.

Here's to a good hard hitting game, and may the best team win.

RE: your avatar...wow, how the old Daisy BB gun has morphed.

Thanks, for the shout out. The Huskers are a better to much better team than last year. Not sure that the Buckeye's are much better, and I fear for the health of Braxton, a great kid, but is way over used.

    I'll take the Huskers in a thriller 33 - 27.

I can honestly see this game going either way. And i think its going to be a great show. Hoping the Huskers can limit the big plays by Braxton.

Early week prediction... Huskers 31 Buckeyes 28
Players of the game: Martinez NU Miller OSU.
Confident that the Burkhead/Abdullah tandem will cause OSU fits
Worried that we dont have the speed at LB to keep up with Miller

Never to early to start one of these threads...

    1. Score 2. Player of the game (NU & OSU) 3. 1 thing your confident about, and 1 thing your worried about.

    1.) NU 34- OSU 31

2.) NU, Martinez; OSU, Braxton Miller

3.) Jamal Turner will be ignored for another week and Braylon Heard will waste away on the sideline for another week

4.) Tie: Maher will miss a crucial FG, Braxton Miller facing our defense without Lavonte David

    602Husker

  • I've been thinking a lot about this and have gone back and forth a considerable amount but believe I have reached to a reasonable expectation for this game:

    1) NU 27 - OSU 20
    2) NU Ameer Abdullah; OSU Braxton Miller
    3) Nebraska's special teams creates a few momentum swings throughout the game
    4) That the apparent fumblitus continues.

This is the game that scared me on the schedule the most along with PSU... I predicted us to go 12-0 as I do not believe any other team in the conference in as talented from top to bottom. I still believe that but I'm nervous. Last year I thought TM was the worst QB ever in the world and he proved me right for about 2.5 qtrs, smh... Then he made me wanna puke and lick it up.

I know our team is much improved, I hear TM is much improved but the the defense has major issues. Our defense has issues with spread teams. MSU was easy, they played into our hands because they don't spread the field. Nebraska does and it won't be easy to stop them. I still like our chances being at home and all but I throw all of that out because I think teams sometimes unite all the more on the road in hostile environments, like we did Saturday.

I think Carlos Hyde will be the difference. He ran wild against Nebraska last year and I can see him being hype for this game this year. He made a statement last week that he should be our starter and I think he builds on it. I think we'll win. I think a lot of people think we only have 1 play-maker but people don't realize that Devin Smith has caught 3 game winning TD's and all were longer than 40 yards. Philly Brown caught 12 balls last week and Stoneburner has disappeared this season but I think thats partially due to Braxton locking into Smith and Brown and not looking for him.

    1. OSU 31 Nebraska 20
    2. POG: OSU - Hyde, NEB - Burkhead
    3. Confident that we'll move the ball, not confident that we'll tackle well

This was the only game I had marked as a surefire 'L' to start the season. Don't see any reason to say any differently now.

    Buckeyes - 31
    Huskers - 23

POG: Jake Stoneburner - Ohio State
    POG: Rex Burkhead - Nebraska

Thing I'm most confident about: Our front 7 with struggle with Ohio State. Miller is the prototypical dual-threat QB that gives us fits, and Stoneburner is an absolute nightmare of a matchup for us at TE. Boren is the best blocking FB in the B1G. Ohio State will get over 400 yards of offense against Nebraska and score at least 27 points.

Thing I'm worried about: Turnovers. We pantsed ourselves with turnovers and mistakes in our drubbings at the hands of Wisconsin and Michigan last year on the road in big games. The Shoe is an intimidating environment that our players have shown a tendency to get too anxious and too amped up to play well in. Escpecially early. Really concerned we can't control our emotions and lay an egg on national TV..., again.

  • This is a good thread. Thanks fellow B1Gs for allowing the Buckeye comments.

I originally was going to go with a +13 for OSU, and then I watched the NU - UW game on tape last night. Now I'm thinking Nebraska by about +6. However, being an unabashed homer:

    1, OSU 27 NU 24
2, NU - Taylor Martinez; OSU - Jonathan Hankins

Confident - NU will be REAL ticked off when the team they watched on the game film Ohio State provided (Ohio UNIVERSITY) is not the team they see Saturday night (Ohio STATE).

Worried - Actually real worried, that a Black Shirt is going to knock Braxton Miller out of the game.

I've got to ask - What is the consensus opinion of the Adidas Alternate Uniforms the Huskers wore this past weekend?

Your analysis seems to be on target, but I would take exception with the part about Nebraska having problems "early" in blow out losses to UW and UM last year.

Nebraska handled themselves pretty well in these games early. As with uSC in the bowl game, it wasn't until late in the 1st half or early in the 2nd half that the wheels came off. Strings of turnovers have a major impact on the game. Nebraska was doing just fine against Wiscy last year until 3 INT's in 3 possessions sealed our fate. Similar debacles against UM and uSC set those games spinning out of control as well.

So, I don't think it's about how we play from the opening kick, but more about avoiding a critical lapse in the middle of the game. I think we will be fine early against tOSU this weekend, and if we avoid the turnover bug, I think it's a 4 quarter game.

One thing that I will be very interested in seeing is how well Braxton Miller holds up. Hyper-extensions may not involve ligament tears, but they can cause fluid build up and stiffness in your knee. He may not be 100% and their #1 RB is out. If they lean on BM too much in the running game, his knee may not last.

  • Right now I think Osu will win by 10 or so.

    Keys for the game
    Defense
Stopping miller is priority 1 and 2. He is there top rusher. Do not just work to contain him with the front 4 which is what bo has done in the past. Blitz, disguise blitzes but come after him over and over. Keep hitting him. Yes this may mean they break a big play or 2 but miller is still a young qb and our front 4 is not fast enough to contain him on their own. Plus when we put a bunch of DBS back in coverage their backs are turned and when the pass isn't there miller will take off. Mobile qbs usually want to run quickly if the pass isn't there and miller is the same. So bring pressure all day.
Also don't give miller the outside. That is where he wants to go. Make him go inside.
Also use cooper a olb. He is faster and physical and can help with miller.
    Unleash Martin.
This is a game that fisher IMO shouldn't see the field much. He just does not have the lateral quickness to help vs miller.
Bring smith down in the box a fair amount. Make miller beat us with the pass.
    More seisay.

    Offense
Uptempo- go fast do not let them adjust
Use reed. He is such a mismatch.
Mix ameer and Rex in. They are a great 1-2 punch. Use Rex a few plays then ameer.
    Use play action
Use wheel routes. We have a lot of speed.
    Challenge them deep.

    We win if we
    Win the turnover battle
    Don't get stupid penalties
    Have a good start
    Contain miller
Execute drives and wear down their d
Give Taylor some time to throw
Get penetration with our d line.
Make adjustments- urban is smart and will motion and change things up.

We can win this game. Go Big Red!
