  • I watched this video and what I took away was this:

    Yada, yada, yada. Man, these cookie cutter chatter-heads drive me nuts. If any one of them actually had an original thought, I'd stand up and cheer. With these guys it's Monkey-Hear-Monkey-Say. Not a single one of them could hold a candle to the analysis we heard last year from Urban Meyer. And Meyer would never blast Martinez or Nebraska as these guys have (and, in fact, he has spoken on these subjects and was much - much more objective and informative). He doesn't waste his time (and our time) with drivel like this. If he were in that setting with that topic, we would have gotten decent analysis. Analysis far beyond these chatter-head's ability.

    Hey, chatter-heads, here's some useful info on Martinez's offensive production. If he continues these next two years at his average rate of production and NOT IMPROVE ONE IOTA, he will crush 3 out of 4 important school stats:

    Rushing -- 3678 yds v Mike Rozier's - 4780 yds. (a Heisman Trophy winner)

    Passing -- 7440 yds v Zac Taylor's ----5850 yds. (a WCO QB)

    Total O - 11,118 yds v Eric Crouch's --7915 yds. (a Heisman Trophy winning 4 year QB)

    TDs - ----------88 v Crouch's 61.

  • Honestly no one outside Nebraska pays much attention. Since we aren't dominating anymore people nationally have written NU off as borderline irrelevant. To think other fans watch this & care is nothing to worry about.

    I can appreciate your angle.

    But if you compared stats from the important( "Big" ) games only, I am certain the TM numbers and overall record to this point is not anything that anyone would be overly proud of. Taylor has had some big impressive games for sure, mostly against the weakest teams. He has had many more "crap" games than good ones, particularly on the biggest stage. It is a travesty to even mention Taylor Martinez in the same sentence as Crouch or Rozier. It will be an absolute shame for Martinez to bump either of those guys from the records unless T-Magic puts together a very strong run over the next two seasons and wins a championship or 2...effectively turning himself into a winner. I am not saying he won't either, I really have no idea what to expect from him in year 3.. and that is what should bother people the most. In all reality, almost any 3rd year starter should be a comforting thought for all.. but with Taylor I am still scared to even watch 90% of the time he's out there... I cringe on every play that isn't a hand off. I am certian many fans do... wondering if he will fumble, throw a pick or make some crazy 80 yard run for a TD or make a nifty run only to stop in the middle of the field standing straight up and get leveled like the last pick in gym class... haha. If nothing else, the kid is entertaining guy for one so quiet. You really never know what your gonna get with him. Thing is, the kid has a ton of athletic ability... he just needs to relax and cut loose with it. I think if he did we would see the freshman streaker again that can take it to the house on any given play. We can live with a few boneheaded turnovers if the kid is gonna rip off 20 rushing TD's and 20+ TD passes or something... just let er rip buddy. Balls NINE !!

    Our 'reputation' has taken a serious hit over the past decade. The rest of the country pretty much views us as 'has been' and 'never will be again' program. Our glory years and national influence are behind us.

    Hard to argue much really.

    Since our last BCS bowl berth (National Title in 2001, which we didn't deserve a shot), the following teams have made it to a BCS bowl game:

    Big East: West Virginia, Cincinnati, Miami(FL), Pittsburgh, Louisville, Connecticut

    ACC: Florida State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Clemson

    SEC: Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas

    B1G: Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Penn State, Wisconsin

    Big 12: Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma State

    Pac 12: Washington State, USC, Utah, Oregon, Stanford

    Independent/Other: Notre Dame, Boise State, Hawaii, TCU

    That is 37 teams in the FBS division of football that have been to a BCS bowl since the last time we went back in 2001.

    Were some of the teams on this list deserving of a BCS bowl? Absolutely not. However, when we look at 2013 recruits, they were all of 6,7, and 8 years old the last time we played in a BCS bowl and we were completely embarrassed in that game on the National stage.

    The further we get away from the 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001 seasons, the more irrelevant we become on the national radar. And with every year that passes that we aren't in one of these games (or playing for a Natty), the less relevant we are on the national radar.

    Pressure is mounting. And while it really isn't the current staff's fault for the problems between 2002 - 2007, it is up to them to make up for past mistakes and get us back on the map again. Fair or not, that is the reality of big boy football.

    I know that, Lando. I know that Rex Burkhead is not a stat. I know that no stat ever scored a touchdown or a run at the plate. But stats are not useless. Besides that, today the record book says one thing and in two more years, most likely it will say something else.
    It is what it is.

    I know that. But this is not what I was talking about. I was crabbing about the pi$$ poor analysis I watched. And I was coming from the POV of a Husker fan interested in their presentation on the Huskers. I thought they offered nothing and I learned nothing from all their chatter.

    Thanks, but, of course I was comparing just record book stats. Reasons for... explanations of... excuses for - all valid and understandable but like I told Lando, it is what it is.

    The rest of your remarks made me laugh because you've nailed it! We never know what we'll get with this kid. He's pulled off some of the most brilliant stuff I've ever seen in Husker red but other times he's like Billy Graham - getting 85,000 people on their feet and screaming, "Jesus Christ!"

    Gonna be interesting these next two years.

    Rece Davis went off on Taylor's throwing motion last year on TV, and then these guys are sitting around ripping on the kid's throwing motion for a couple minutes on live TV. Just seems like an easy target to rip on his throwing motion without throwing in any real analysis of Nebraska or Martinez and what he does on the field.

  • People shouldn't be mad about this video or their thoughts on the current state of the football program. I agree, they didn't offer any great insight about things we didn't know already, but what do we really expect? Seriously. What could they have said that we don't already know? This wasn't for people on here, it was for the casual Nebraska fan and those that don't follow Nebraska football.

    I can't be mad at them because I thought they were fair and accurate. Who cares that they don't know more about the program and the strides that have been made, it doesn't matter. WINNING matters, everything else no one wants to hear. Win something significant and Nebraska is nationally relevant again, it is very simple. Big boy football wins conference championships and competes for national championships.

    As many people on here have said numerous times, they call Taylor and the teams performance last year as they see it, in reality, not with Husker colored glasses.

    As the panel all agreed, this is a big year for Taylor, Bo and the Nebraska Football program. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.

    As the saying goes, perception is reality.

    Nebraska is nowhere near as relevant as we used to be, but we still have a name and tradition.

    What makes TM's god awful throwing motion part of the conversation is the notion of Nebraska trying to get back to the top with a QB that has Pop Warner mechanics. Yes, TM can run, but he can also look completely inadequate at times. It ends up being kind of a standing joke that Nebraska is trying to fight it's way back to the top with a QB of his skill set.

    The only way that perception changes is if TM can make some improvements in his mechanics and/or lead Nebraska to a Top Ten/BCS bowl scenario. Otherwise, he and Nebraska are still going to be scoffed at by the national media.
