Why does Scout rate players

  • so different, and why do every outlet seem to use them.
I am watching the big ten signing day show, and according to scout, we only got 2 four star players Westerkamp and Armstrong. The rest are 2 and 3.

    Scout = ESPN = Junk

I prefer this site to all others for content and the board, but as of now, Rivals is still considered the gold standard for rankings I believe.

Scout seems to rely heavily on who and how many schools are offering kids.

Thus a guy like McMullen drops down to a three star, because he committed early to Nebraska, and nobody else pursued him after that.

I doubt that Scout even uses evaluators that go out and see these kids in the flesh, or apparently bother to watch tape on them. They also tend to use a lot of local scouts rather than national. If you're from the talent-rich states that also seems to earn you extra stars.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

247 pretty much raided Rivals recruit evaluators. Those 2 are the most reliable. I think Scout gave Ohio State 5 5-stars or something like that when everyone else was giving them 2 lol.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Rivals is not the gold standard. Every site will rank differently as they see fit.

24/7 is great because you can ask any analyst why they ranked a player why they did, and magically, you'll get a response.

Agreed. I just want ton know why the BTN doesn't use 247 or rivals. Instead of a competition channel

You don't know much about Scout.

  • Just like in the past, the Huskers have brought in a good recruiting class and our coaches will do a fine job coaching them up and Nebraska will win at least 9 games every year, possibly more. And teams like Miami of Florida and UCLA, amongst others, with all of their 5 star players will go 6-6 and play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl or the Detroit Motor City Bowl. I'll take our recruiting class and our coaches over theirs any day of the week. Give me Armstrong and Westerkamp and watch what the Huskers accomplish with them.

And teams like Bama and LSU and USC with their 4 and 5 star guys will play for national titles. It goes both ways

  • I don't expect Scout to be in business all that much longer.

They are easily behind 247, Rivals, and ESPN in their rankings, effort, staff, and material that they push out.

Scout is affiliated with Fox Sports for craps sake.

    Care to expand at all?

  • Scout is owned by Fox Sports. BTN is partially owned by Fox. That is why they use Scout.

Pretty sure there has been studies and they've been more accurate than Rivals over the years.

Furthermore, Rivals bumps up player rankings based on subscriptions.

Your second statement doesn't surprise me in the least. I didn't know about that first part, though.

  • I just joined 24/7 about a week ago and decided to also try scout as they were offering a free trial (I wanted to join Rivals but they would not let me us my international credit card). The quality of work from Scout is pretty bad, there really is not much value you get for your money. I feel like here there are better articles and I find the staff responsive, thorough and intelligent, which I did not feel at Scout. I called the other night asking to cancel my subscription, even before signing day, and they offered me another free month, which I wont use anymore.
I feel like 24/7 has more evaluators are more accurate, frequent and consistent on their evaluations. ESPN does not put out the resources to update rankings, and they are often behind on predictions. However to be fair, it cost around $2 a month per person to be an insider on ESPN for all the sports, not just recruiting so they dont have the revenue stream that the paysites have.

I'm an Insider on ESPN, but not for the recruiting part. I guess that's for my Fantasy Football Leagues. They have some some decent articles for other sports also. My recruiting info comes from here.

  • I'd guess the BTN uses scout becuase the BTN is owned or has a partnership with FOX while Scout is owned by FOX
