Top 10 Nebraska Cornhusker Quarterbacks of All Time | Bleacher Report

With the recent and ongoing quarterback controversy that has been a headline for the Cornhuskers, well, since Joe Ganz graduated, I thought it would be a fun time to take a look back at some of the great Huskers who stood under center...

  • Offensive style of a long time.

Now not able to get the type of QB commits it takes since they associate Nebraska run first QBs and the fans dont want it to change.

I dont know about this.. We want to win no matter how we do it.. So you are saying that we didnt want Turner Gill or Tommy or Ganz as QB's saying this. All them were really good passing running QB's that opened up the I-Back even more with the threat of them passing as well as they did.

I have to disagree with you on this one big guy!! We want it and we want it badly.. Im speaking for myself ofcourse..woot

Y'all are spoiled. I started hard core following our boys when Cally first came around. I was visiting my Grandma in Beatrice when they had his introductory press conference. You trying being a fan in Kansas City during that time. Sheeeeesh.

I would say Vince Faragamo (Spelling?) was our best pro QB, I'm pretty sure he has a Super Bowl ring with the Rams back in the 70's as a starter. Somebody probably knows more about this than I do, but I know he was a pretty decent QB.

Good QB? Or did you mean a good QB that the NFL would like?

    Yep.

    Vince Ferragamo it is/was.

Led the Rams to the Super Bowl during the 1979 season when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in one of the best Super Bowls of all time.

I hate this comment, but I'm not sure there is anybody else even close.

Since the 80s, we haven't recruited NFL type QBs, remember the trend to actually use dual threat QBs in the NFL is very new, nor have we really ran an offense that prepped QBs for the NFL, except for when Cally was here.

  • Just to add some more to this topic.

Back in the '70s when Tom Osborne first took over the program we had a very innovative offense that threw the ball more than roughly 85% of the programs in college football. It was without any doubt a ground oriented era in which running backs ruled the day.

Archie Griffin, Joe Washington, the Pruitt brothers from Oklahoma, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Billy Sims, Marcus Allen, Charles White, etc., etc, etc.

USC used to be known as, I believe, Toss Sweep, or something to that nature. Woody Hayes, the beloved and tempermental Ohio State head coach said that only 3 things can happen when throwing the football, and two of them were bad.

Back then the wishbone was in style, and big time teams ran the ball 80% of the time or more. Rarely would you see QB's from major universities throw for even 2,000 yards. Tom's offense was thought of as being revolutionary at the same time as being gimicky and not the type that would win championships. It really wasn't until Miami and Florida State were able to win National Championships with solid passing attacks that it was accepted as the type of offense that could win anything of substance.

We have gone after some Pro Style QB's..i.e. Adams from CC JC, Blaine Gabbert and his brother..

We have looked but havent gotten them!

Jordan Adams was under Cally and never played QB here, Gabbert would have done the exact same thing here that he did at MIzzou and would have been drafted, you can't put that on anything but him panicking when Cally was fired. He actually approached the staff about possibly rejoining the class in 08 but in the end decided not to. Baby Gabbert, well, who really cares there.

All 3 were recruited by Sean Watson, during the time we ran an actual Pro Style offense.

But the point is that we have gone after them!

It's not like we havent gone looking for that style of QB, right?
