Who redshirts?

  • I know this has been talked about a little. With Bo saying he regrets red shirting as many as he did last season, does he let more people play? I would still like to see all of our high school olinemen red shirt, at least one of the RBs and Gladney. The D is kind of a crapshoot imo. The LBs may redshirt, but past that idk. What do you guys think?

    Bills2

  • All OL/DL that are not Juco. Adam Taylor. If Allen recovers fully I'd like Gladney to RS. Stanton. Just off top of my head.

Most dl guys are going to have to play this year for depth.

  • No they won't. They are not ready. Only two that I would consider even close to ready to contribute as Frosh would be Collins and Natter. We have McMullen, Curry, Valentine, Moss, Randle (hopefully good by season), Williams, Ankrah, Gregory, etc... Those guys will need to step up in some way... True freshman probably won't contribute much this year. Unless they surprise everyone by owning the weight room like Moss did last year.

  • I'm with you ibr on the dline. I like Our incoming DTs, but they need to develop a little. Guys on the roster have to step up. Curry and VV are hopefully ready because they will have big roles next season.

    Bills2

  • Guys that will redshirt:

    Johnny Stanton
    Zach Hannon
    Dwayne Johnson
    David Knevel
    Kevin Gladney
    Greg Hart
    Ernest Suttles
    Kevin Maurice
    TreVell Dixon
    Boaz Joseph
    Drake Martinez
    Josh Banderas
    Nathan Gerry

Guys that might play: (guys I think WILL play in bold)
    Randy Gregory
    Matt Finnin
    Chongo Kondolo
    DJ Singleton
    Terrell Newby and/or Adam Taylor
    Marcus Newby
    Cethan Carter
    Dimarya Mixon
    Maliek Collins
    Gabriel Miller
    Courtney Love
    AJ Natter

doesn't matter if they're ready or not... Maurice and Collins might have to contribute anyway. I think we all know Guy and Okuyemi won't do anything. You have Thad Randle... one leg. Kevin Williams... who knows. Then Curry and Valentine.

You need more than two or three DTs. Even if Ankrah moves inside you still have to play a freshman or two at DT, especially if Randle and Williams are so poor in the health department.

DE... you'll lose Ankrah so that means you'd have Gregory, Moss, McMullen... then Walker Ashburn and Donavon Vestal? Probably will need at least one or two true freshmen there as well.

I think we'll have true frosh d-line contributors. My guess is Collins + Natter(?). Also think Taylor plays unless he is adamant about the extra year of eligibility.

I agree with everyone on your list with the exception of Mixon. I think he plays. Also, due to Bo's comments, I think Natter may also play.

  • You guys have a lot more faith in Collins' immediate impact than I do. I'll wait until Fall Camp to pass judgement, based on what we hear, but I expect the 'learning curve' from a middle of the road division in Missouri to D1 football to be a serious obstacle for him.

I just think he or Maurice will have to. Neither will be able to redshirt given our complete lack of depth and experience at DT.

I think the reason for their excitement is his understanding if leverage. Wrestling has helped him in that department and so it is easy to expect his technique to be further along than others.

This may or may not work out, but I believe this is the reason of thinking Collins can be a contributor next season if need be.

I would have thought Banderas would but with his injury and surgery I think he redshirts.

In a perfect world, he'd redshirt...but we are in a real poor position at DT right now.

I think he gets eaten alive the first time we face an offensive line strong on the inside. Seriously, the OLs he faced weren't even close to top notch in Missouri. Hell, weren't close to top notch OLs in Kansas City.

Possibly. Same could be said for a number of our other DTs though.

DT is an absolute mess right now.

    Styles

  • Kaz is going to earn his money this year. My hope is that some youngins will have it 'click' by November.
