Who Starts on the Oline

  • I know this is a way to early thread, but I'm bored and excited for this group. I'm going for starters at the start of the season.

    Don't want to start anything to crazy, just curious what you guys think.

    OT: Finnin, Sterup

    G: Kondolo, Andrew Rodriguez

    C: Thurston (pretty sure he was working at C), ?

    G: Spencer Long, Pensick

    OT: Sirles, Sterup

    My biggest question marks are Finnin and Kondolo, how soon will they be ready to make an impact. Then who starts at Center and the other guard spot. I wouldn't be surprised if Kondolo ends up at center. And who am I forgetting? Is Reeves or Price ready to go?

    I am bias against Rodriguez because i never thought much of him since he was getting blown up at the Army AA bowl in HS. (If i remember correctly) Would also like to throw Price in there as a guy who will at least play in our first 8 games

    Up to you, mine is start of the season, but that is probably more likely by Big 10 play. I just figure half my office is gone, I might as well avoid doing work too.

    RT - Jeremiah Sirles, Zach Sterup
    RG - Jake Cotton, Ryne Reeves/Andrew Rodriguez
    C - Cole Pensick, Mark Pelini
    LG - Spencer Long, Chongo Kondolo
    LT - Brent Qvale, Matt Finnin

    Half way through the season I think it will look like this:

    RT - Jeremiah Sirles, Zach Sterup
    RG - Jake Cotton, Ryne Reeves/Andrew Rodriguez
    C - Cole Pensick, Paul Thurston
    LG - Spencer Long, Chongo Kondolo
    LT - Matt Finnin, Brent Qvale

    Dark horses: Givens Mordi Price, Paul Thurston, Andrew Rodriguez

    I think your halfway through the season would be my starting out except I don't see Spencer Long moving to LG. I would switch your LG and RG and agree. I don't see AROD seeing the field much unless he has a big improvement above the shoulder pads.

    This Kondolo JUCO is going to be interesting. I feel we are very very deep on the interior. I'm not worried about them one bit. I really don't even want to debate who starts because we are going to be good there with whoever wins out.

    Tackle is the obvious issue. Making up for Moore leaving is tough. We won't know until big ten play who has won that spot. I hope Finnin can come in and be as good as some if you think he can, but I'm not as optimistic. I think he needs to be coached up some before he's a factor.

  • Yes, Reeves is a RS So.

    OG will be a strength. Finnin probably will need some time to get adjusted, so I really hope Sirles and Sterup have a big spring.
