What's your favorite Husker possession?

  • I’ve had an idea brewing in my head for a couple of months about how interesting it might be to photograph some of the great pieces of Husker memorabilia that people have collected over the years. I’ve seen 80- and 90-year-old ticket stubs, old programs and some beautiful hand-made creations over the years. Some of these items are incredibly valuable and go on eBay for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Others may not have a monetary value, but have a great story tied to them.

After convincing some friends to let me borrow their treasures, I rented out a photo studio for the afternoon and shot several boxes worth of items. We’ll be featuring these items regularly in Huskers Illustrated Magazine. Obviously I hope that readers will not only enjoy seeing these beautiful items, but may opt to participate in the project by letting us photograph their Husker treasures.

The attached photos is a piggy bank that was produced by First National Bank of Omaha during the 60s, I believe. As I understand it, they also produced them for some of the other area colleges. They are pretty rare, as you can imagine.

I’m curious what’s your most treasured Husker item or memory?

Can't wait to see some of the items, great idea Aaron!

I don't have much stuff that is memorable, but I still have my 1st Huskers Illustrated Magazine - it might have been the combined June/July 1992 issue with Derek Brown on the cover.

  • I have a few other possessions, but Herbie is my favorite. He scratches off the occasional lottery ticket too.

  • I have the game program to the 1992 Nebraska/Colorado game somewhere in my parents' house. Not that unique, but that was one heck of a football game.

I also have a wide receivers glove that a Wyoming receiver gave me following the Nebraska/Wyoming game in 1994.

  • ive got quite afew things... My grandpa and Tom are pretty good friends so i see Tom quite bit and he's given me some stuff like his books, I get to go fishing with him when he comes up here to Pierre which is usually about 5 or 6 times a year, I got a poster of "The Catch" that shows the ball boucing around and getting caught and I had Matt Davidson and Scott Frost sign it. Ive got a whole card-book filled with Huskers in their Husker jerseys and some with autographs including Bobby Newcome, Brandon Jackson, Courtney Grixby, Mo Purify, Sam Keller, and Zac Taylor. A whole bunch of pictures of my dad with the team when he use to get to travel to the bowl games with the team. Got a pic of my dad in the pool with the whole team and he's on Dean Steinkhulers shoulders.

I wish I could find the glove Tony Veland gave and signed to me when I was a kid. [frumpled]

I meant my first issue in 1992, not the very first HI issue (if that was the one)

  • I'm not really sure which item I have that is my favorite. I have some old media guides from the 60s that are in mint condition. I have a framed HI cover with Suh on it that he autographed. I did not solicit the autograph, it was given to me. Overall, it might be my collection of photos of Nebraska football. I've got about 30,000 photos I've taken in the last two years. If I could ever capture one of those timeless moments (Crouch run, big win, etc), that would be my holy grail.

  • When I was a wee lad my grandma sewed a Husker outfit together for a stuffed bear that I liked. She wanted to surprise me with it and asked my mom what number to put on the back. My mom told her No. 15 (Tommie Frazier at the time) but my grandma heard 16. She even found a helmet to go with it. It turned out pretty awesome.

  • Got a pic of the winning TD from the Game of the Century, and a 1960's old school red golf hat with a white N on it. My grandpa wore it to every home game since 1962. When he past my grandma gave it to me. I have put it away, thought about getting TO to sign it.
