What is most worrisome about Wisconsin?

  • Running game? Defense? Just being the next team on Nebraska's schedule?

Running game. Shutdown Ball and White and I think we run away with this.

If we stop their running game early on, I won't be nervous.

  • Nothing Wisconsin can do will surprise or overwhelm us. They are playing a 3rd string QB who is completing a whopping 52% of his passes in games against Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State. Our defense is better than those, particularly against the pass. He can run, but if the defense keeps that in check and forces him to make deep, accurate throws, I don't think he'll have the success Stave did against the defense last time around. Montee Ball is Montee Ball, he'll get his yards and a TD or two without a doubt, but if he gets those on a lot of 3/4 yard runs instead of gashing us for 20+ I think the coaching staff would be cool with that.

The bottom line is this: if Nebraska loses this game it will be because of turnovers and other mistakes. I'm more worried about us than Wisconsin.

There is nothing scary about Wisconsin. Very average team all around. The only think that is scary is whether or not we beat ourselves and to what extent

  • This is a game we should win, even with our depleted Dline. As long as we don't hurt ourselves to much we should be smelling Roses. Even if this turns into a score fest, we can out score them. As long as we, again, don't kill ourselves.

  • Our run defense and our special teams are what concern me. Our inability to cover kicks and then catch punt have me scared.

Yeah. Plus I believe they are confident about beating us. And the fact that it is for a CC and a Rose Bowl appearance.

This is what I think, too. The only thing about them is that they are very well coached. They're always in position, they block and tackle, they make very few mistakes. They play football well.

However, outside of Bell and maybe Abracadabra, they are very average in talent. And even those two are not really exceptional. Wisky also doesn't scheme so well. The way you play good football with so-so talent is to scheme small. Limit the complexity and practice, practice, practice.

Belima does well with what he's got but, when he's losing, he's got nothing left in the tank. That's when the sideline cameras show him standing there doing his mouth breathing act and acting clueless.

The thing is, see, they are easily beaten by superior talent and better schemes if you can execute. So, no problem - we execute, we win. Easily. Simple, really.

Mike nothing worries me about Wisconsin: NOTHING! You know what i am most worried about Nebraska for real! I want to tell you and anyone on this board if we do not self-destruct we can and will beat any team in the land! I believe that if i am alone.

What am I talking about: fumbles, muffed punt returns and shanking of punts; oh also “not so smart” penalties; safest way i wanna say that w/o calling any or our young men names. (Husker respect). It's very interesting that we gave up 28 points alone (“turn overs”) to OSU! Yes go check it out. With UCLA all kinds of problems with same things i was referring to above!

2nd: What if TM goes down? That’s a “phat worry” for any Husker fan! I cannot say we have an experienced battle tested back up QB; a dangerous position to be in Coach Bo! A huge drop off in QB efficiency!

One last thing to the “faithfuls”: I refuse to believe we win or loose because of Stein or JJ; injuries are part of FB man! It's very unfortunate for those young men but knowing Coach Bo he's not holding a pity party for those boys or the team but he's focused on the healthy ones. Coach Bo got his hands full: if we win he would be 1-4 in Conference Championship games.

Let’s play ball Nebraska beat Wisconsin. Nebraska 30 Wisconsin 17!

Don't you actually mean 1-2 in conference title games? This is Bo's 3rd at Nebraska.

  • Hi guys, excited to go up against Nebraska again. Don't be fooled by the 3rd String QB banter, more of a third string, Curt Phillips isn't too big of a dropoff from Stave who you saw in his first game during our first game. CP beat DOB to get the spot. He's a pretty decent leader and has led the Badgers to force overtime the past two games. Doesnt have a deep throw capability, but can get stuff done. Still very limited to what we should have.
I'll be interested to see what Wisconsin does against Nebraska offensively. We've had some great starts against OSU and PSU, but have gone stagnant in the second half both games. Teams start putting 5 D-lineman and our O-Coordinator doesn't have the stones to throw it on first down. The hope is that we were saving some of our bigger stuff for the BIGCC, but the reality is that we need a new OC who isnt scared to do something besides run up the middle when we have a lead. Our OL has improved significantly since last time and I think we'll run pretty darn well against Nebraska at some points during this game. If you stop our run and can shut down Abby, we're screwed. Worst season of WR I've ever seen as a Wisconsn fan.
Defensively, we had a lot of injuries that forced guys into new starting roles. Shelton Johnson, a safety, will be back in place of Trotte. Brendan Kelly, a starting DE, will be back as well as Pat Muldoon who was coming on.
I was impressed with how we schemed for Braxton Miller and shut him down which I think is the big hope for us this game. Burkhead is the best 2nd best RB in the conference behind Ball imo and he's going to get his, but if we can prevent T-Mart from scampering, I think we have a shot. It's going to be a close game either way not a blowout. With that said, I still think you guys come out on top.

If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting

    Wolfie

  • Thanks for your post Wolfie. I think what has Nebraska fans worried is losing our main DT with very little depth to replace him (Baker Steinkuhler)... If one of our backups does not step up this week in practice then we are looking at moving in one of our DE in (cam Meredith) and if that happens that makes me very nervous with us trying to stop the run bc he is so undersized for a DT

  • What worries me the most is us, that's it. If we don't come out overhyped and clumsy like we did in round one vs Wiscy, I think we put it away by halftime. We can and will score points if we take care of the ball. They can't score with us unless we give them short fields on a consistent basis. I anticipate them getting 1-2 drives in the first quarter, just running it right, left and up the middle, then we adjust and shut it down. It'll be close after 1, 8+ by mid 2nd, double digits by 1/2 and cruise by the 4th.

  • It is always difficult to beat a good team twice. Nobody should be fooled by Wisconsin's 7-5 record. All 5 of those losses have been by a FG or in OT. They have been on the short end of some very tough losses and simply don't get blown out.

None of Wisconsin's losses are embarrassing or indicate they are anything but a good football team.

Also, they have been getting Monte Ball cranked up and their OL is playing much better than when we played in Lincoln. We have shown an ability to give up yards between the tackles, and that was when Baker was playing. We'll get a full dose of Ball and White this time around. You can bank on it. Our defense has to win 1st down. It is that simple. That and not turn the ball over, which we have a tendency to do.

    Skerz

  • if they have to punt we are screwed
