Asinine...The teams with the best recruiting classes are continually playing in the national championship games year in and year out. Stars matter. The corn fed boys win conference games but stars win championships. Our walk on program was great and is still unique to us, but its embarrassing when you look back at the numbers of starting walk on players we've had at skill positions in recent years. Our walk on program was big time because we could build football players with a superior strength and conditioning program, now everyone has great facilities and state of the art equipment so that is no longer our edge. We aren't the only team who has ever played a walk on or sent one to the NFL, but do have a great tradition there...its what helps keep the state invested in the program by giving those home grown boys a chance to be on the team. I will say that the home grown kids are good for keeping the pride and traditions alive and are an asset on the practice field and in the locker room...but if I had to choose who I could in the starting lineup...give group of 5 and 4 stars and i'd be happy.
