UnKnown’s Forgettable Opinions, Week #9
The usual scatter…
LET’S GET THIS OFF THE TABLE REAL QUICK….Michigan doesn’t win even if DR plays the whole game. More of a nail-biter perhaps, but Michigan was not the better team out there last night, even when DR was in the game.
BESIDES, IF YOU WANT TO TALK INJURIES…we played without Rex and Martinez was only about 80% half the game. We were hampered due to injury as well. Speaking of that…
HOW BADLY HURT WILL TM HAVE TO BE…before he get’s taken out? Just imagine a Marcus Lattimore caliber of injury on BOTH legs. Seriously though, that might be the single worst leg injury ever in a football game. A broken femur and all 4 knee ligaments? Ungodly, and in the “only the good die young” vein, it probably couldn’t have happened to a more respected player.
TWO GAMES IN ONE…a ”slobber knocker” in the trenches and a game of two hand touch every where else. I think those refs got lost on their way to a flag football tournament in Beatrice.
TIME FOR A RULE ADJUSTMENT…it’s gotten to where a DB can’t even lead a tackle with his shoulder above the waist. Would the NCAA prefer they go low and end up with more Marcus Lattimore disasters instead?
AMEER ABDULLAH…is fast becoming a complete back. Excellent speed to the edge, sees his cutback lanes well, and is running inside better and better. Probably why you didn’t see Braylon last night. Still needs to work on his pass blocking. He got knocked into next week on that one Martinez sack.
DAVID SANTOS…if he’s any indicator of where our LB play is headed, then we’re in pretty good shape. Old Mother Hubbard is liking that cupboard.
RUNNING IN QUICKSAND AWARD…goes to PJ Smith for letting a QB run him down from behind to avert a Pick 6. He’ll be hearing about that for a while.
SEAN FISHER, WE HARDLY KNEW YA’…sure is great to see a kid finally show what he’s capable of, even if it’s down to his last few games.
SJ-B…with a little more seasoning, he can be an All American caliber player. Great physicality and ball skills. The way he tracked down that INT in the end zone was a thing of beauty. He still needs to learn the Alphonso Dennard style of knocking receivers off their routes. You just throw them out of bounds and then they are out of the play altogether.
THE OFFENSIVE LINE…is not over-powering by any stretch. They do manage to “get in the way” on most occasions, but I’m guessing the pancake blocks weren’t too numerous last night. Won’t be next week either.
TWO YEARS LATE…or the best description of the Final Four format for college football. Right now we have Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Kansas State, and it’s not a stretch that they ALL go undefeated. Good luck with that scenario, BCS.
ALL RIGHT BO…it’s time you started carrying a hankie in your back pocket. Lot’s of folks think you’re kind of Neanderthal anyway, but when they show you with snot running out your nose, it’s a little disconcerting. I pray to God you don’t stick your tongue up there to wipe it away on national TV. That would go viral.
SPEAKING OF BO…who else would like to see him take the podium after a nice win with a Budweiser in his hand and a smile on his face? Come on Bo, you just won a big game. Lighten up and act like you’re having fun.
DOING LESS WITH MORE AWARD, WEEK #9...Texas continues to rack up these awards, this time narrowly averting a loss to KU that might have been Mack Brown’s Waterloo. The level of their play given the talent they have is mind boggling.
AFTER ALL THE PRE-GAME ANALYSIS…of why we would or would not win this game, it came down to the simplest analytic you can look at: turnovers. That makes us 33-2 I think since 2008 when we tie or win the turnover battle.
All the other different forms of analysis are fun, but the turnover scenario tends to trump them all.
DID WE LOSE A RECRUIT?...count me in the group that doesn't get too concerned about it. It happens every year and it always will, for whatever the reason. Chances are, we'll nab a few players committed elsewhere before it's all said and done.
IF WE CAN’T SAY SOMETHING BAD…then we aren’t saying much of anything. Or, the principal reason you hear little or nothing from a few BYC notables after a nice win. Although some Sunday morning recruiting news may allow them to focus their energies where they usually do.
+1 Love reading these each week, thanks!
Best one yet UF. Well said
I always like reading this.
"TIME FOR A RULE ADJUSTMENT…it’s gotten to where a DB can’t even lead a tackle with his shoulder above the waist. Would the NCAA prefer they go low and end up with more Marcus Lattimore disasters instead? "
This is getting ridiculous. I forget who had that tackle from the front and they called it targeting I nearly lost it.

Josie and I dig TUF!
Couldn't agree more on THE RULE ADJUSTMENT.
I was pretty amazed how well Taylor played after getting dinged up.
Love Bo's cure for not dropping interceptions. No doubt T.O.'s, to the good, will be key to winning the Division.
...It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
