UFO's Week #12

  • Unknown’s Forgettable Opinions
    Week #12

WHAT? A LEAD AT HALF TIME?…I didn’t really know how to react to that. Fortunately, we maintained our “balanced approach” by looking like Omaha Northwest High School in the 4th quarter. Nice to see the 2nd team contribute to our obligatory “bad half” every game.

THE JITTERBUG OFFENSE…or what you might call a game plan that involves a whole lot of short passes to Kenny Bell and Jamal Turner. The list of opposing DC “headaches” continues to get longer. JT is looking more natural out there every week.

BLESS HIS HEART…but Taylor Martinez continues to improve on his ability to step up in the pocket and/or scramble then get the ball down field to an open receiver. Cha ching!

PLAY ACTION, TIM….or what was the perfect scenario for a fake to Imani and a toss to a wide open TE in the end zone there before half. Be sure to use the red phone next time, Tim, I’ll be on the other end.

CIANTE EVANS….yeah, he’s good. I like Mitchell too. He’s feisty. It’s fun to see how the secondary comes along during the course of the season. The defense as a whole has come along too, just not as far as we need them to get.

SO IS EVERYBODY BUT THE SEC…allergic to a national championship? The table was perfectly set to shut the SEC out of the NC game, and the two teams in prime position to do it end up playing like, uhh… West Carolina. Speaking of the team that represents the 51st State…

WHY DOES THE BIG TEN WANT TO GO TO 14 TEAMS?…Pretty simple. That way in Week #12 of the season, B1G teams can schedule like the SEC does. So once Maryland and Rutgers are in the fold, get ready for some late season spectacles like: Nebraska v. Bellevue University, Penn State v. Altoona A&M, Indiana v. IUPUI#WTF, and other November classics. Gotta roll the way the big boys do.

IT TOOK UNTIL OVERTIME…for Ohio State’s OC to figure out that Wisconsin was coming after Braxton Miller every play. Carlos Hyde could have run for 200 yards himself yesterday had they given him the ball more often. He averaged 5.8 ypc on 15 carries, Montee Ball 4.9ypc on 39 totes. Wisconsin did look formidable but lets’ hope they continue to come up short the next few weeks.

IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED…but the 12 week con job that KSU was playing on the world of college football finally got exposed by a team with a losing record. Memo to Bill Snyder; never take advice from Mike Gundy on how to finish off an undefeated season.

WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO?…We are now left to root for Notre Dame to close the deal and win the NC, just so the SEC doesn’t win it again? That said, don’t be getting too cocky, SEC. You may have to beat God’s team this time around, and when he has time to watch college football, the Big Guy likes his team to win.

MY “MOST OVERATED” …FLORIDA. A team that has literally stunk the last 3 weeks. If they had played anyone in the top 75 in that span, they would have lost them all. Instead, we‘ll be hearing all week about their chances to play into the NC game. OKLAHOMA. They barely escaped at WVU, a team in total free fall. Mike Stoops is not even a good DC anymore, and brother Bob looks like he wants to walk in Mack Brown’s shoes as the coach who routinely wastes the most talent. Fortunately for Big Game Bob, Lane Kiffin is aiming for that distinction as well.

91.8%….the chances that if you change channels on the game you’re watching to check in on another game, that the other game is in a commercial break. A 5 minute commercial break.

87.6%- the chances that if you luck out and catch some action from that other game, that you click back and find you missed a touchdown or a turnover in the game you were actually watching.

SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION WATCH…the coaches whom you might see “spark and explode” in front of the cameras in the not too distant future.
Mark Dantonio. Mike Leach. Dana Holgerson.

EVERY HEAD COACHING JOB AVAILABLE…or, the number of coaching jobs Bo Pelini will be rumored to be interested in at the end of the season.

Solid across the board, as always. Re: the end of the first half, I was screaming for the play action, too, but alas.. I was also a little grouchy in the 2nd quarter when Beck dialed up the halfback pass play. A totally unnecessary call at that point in the game, and in the season. Props to Ameer for pulling it down and not making a bad call worse. But minus a few brain farts, Tim did call a really nice game.

I like the play call considering how much we've ran that toss play. But I agree......why not wait until Wisconsin or the Rose Bowl? Seemed unnecessary v. Minnesota.

Didn't work anyway, so maybe it's for the best.

I think the call was simply to put it on film for Wisconsin/Bowl Opponent. My guess is you see a couple plays like that against Iowa if we can get up early. It will make the DBs stay back on the pitch hopefully.

  • This and a cup of Kona Coffee made me smile, thanks Unknown.

In the 60's we became familiar with Notre Dame and the luck of the Irish or Touchdown Jesus, it was awful. I think the Force has reawoken until the care of those Nuns working the Beads.

  • Thanks, Unknown. You know, don't you, if you ever take a week off from this, there will be some heavy withdrawal symptoms around here.
