Ya better NebrASKa somebody!!!
,,,,,,,,,,"Right now you’re the starter. There are a lot of guys who are on your tail and chasing you. We’ve got a lot of young guys who are chomping at the bit to get in. So every single day you’ve got to hold onto the job, prove that you can be that guy day-in and day-out.’”----Terry Joseph!!
I wish the same philosophy holds for all positions. A subliminal statement, no player and or position should be "protected" (breeding grounds for complacency).
Result? Stiff competition results in a vastly improved team on both sides of the football. Yeah 'am big time on Big Red!!

My "Cliff's Notes" theory about the safeties last year, was that they (particularly Stafford) had to be counted on too much in run support due to the weakness of the front 7. As a result, Stafford was often baited out of position by play action, leaving our corners on an island. We saw how that went most the time.
Improve the play of the front 7, and improved safety play will likely follow. Get some LB's that can cover the flanks and some DL's that can carry their weight and the defense will have a more balanced approach.
The players are definitely there for us to have a very good secondary.
