Thank You Huskers!

  • I made the trip to Lincoln yesterday and drove through the night back to Ann Arbor, just getting back.

I've been to almost all of the Big Ten stadiums now, and Lincoln was by far my favorite trip. I know you guys probably hear it a lot, but y'all are incredible. The best fanbase I've ever encountered. I came with my Dad and we went to Barry's Bar for some drinks and Old Chicago for a lunch/dinner. Everywhere we went in our maize & blue colors, people were welcoming, warm, and awesome.

At Barry's, we both had two people buy us beers. Walking down the street, people would come up and ask how we're liking Nebraska, how our day is going, and just welcoming us to Lincoln.

At Old Chicago, we had a very nice gentleman pick up our tab, our very cute waitress gave us a free cookie pizza dessert, and we had another beer bought for us.

At the game, we got there early and a worker took us behind the scenes to a tour of the stadium just to make sure we felt comfortable and happy. He called over Mattison before the game and introduced him to us on the sideline. In our seats, I was in Section 15, row 5, next to a high school kid and his very attractive girlfriend that was hopefully not in high school because then I'd feel creepy. He was awesome, polite, and generous. On the other side of us were an older couple who had been coming to games for 15 years and they just did everything to make sure our stay was as good as possible.

I've never encountered a fanbase like that, and I really want to give you props. Very proud to have you and the city of Lincoln in the Big Ten, you represent us very well.

It really taught me lessons about how to treat people, and it will really impact me when opposing fans come to visit. If I can be half as generous as you were to us, I'll have succeeded.

Thank you for making my weekend awesome.

Go Blue and Go Huskers! I have to root against you for one more game this year for our championship hopes, but I really became a Husker fan yesterday.

  • Looking at a lot of other programs I'm always worried we will begin to lose our tradition of respect for opposing fans. Reading things like this make my day and make me damn proud to be a part of Husker Nation!! Glad you enjoyed the visit and thanks for your post!

  • The way I see it, there's just no point in being a prick toward opposing fan bases. All it does is ruin everyone's good time.

    Glad you enjoyed yourself.

I completely agree, but the fact that you guys go out of your way to help us is what made an impact on me and will make me attempt to do the same.

  • Glad you enjoyed D-dubbs. It's always fun having to mingle with the other teams fans. I had a buddy, who can be very shy, run up a $100+ tab sitting drinking with SDSU fans at Barry's a couple years back in less than an hour. It's just one of those things.

  • More people need to see that Nebraska fans are really the best fans in college football. We welcome the opponents in With respect and we cheer for them we they leave out Nebraska win or lose. We are the best fans in college and not just football. Come see our volleyball or basketball or baseball teams and you will see it again. Glad you made it home safely.
