TMart for Heisman?

  • I don't want this to get into another argument about the greatness or lack of greatness of Taylor Martinez.

What I would like this thread to concentrate upon is whether Nebraska should push a campaign for Taylor Martinez to be a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate.

He is soon to become a 4 year starter. We have a paper thin schedule to start out our first 8 games of the season in which stats can be racked up to the oohing and ahhing of Heisman voters.

With that said, should the Nebraska Athletic Department put forth some kind of campaign to push Taylor as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate?

  • yes, the AD should. If we start 8-0, the word relevant will start being whispered on epsn and other outlets. Having a heisman candidate can only help that cause.

  • He's certainly a possibility given NU's offense and schedule.

  • It always helps the team's image to have someone in the Heisman hunt. TMart is most logical candidate for Heisman off this team. I think the Athletic Dept. will get behind his candidacy and push, and they should.

It would be nice to have another Heisman winner from NU but even if we win a NC I don't see TM getting it. I say this because of what happened with Tommy Fraizer.

  • Interesting stat that Steve Sipple tweeted earlier today....

With 42 rushing yards and 2,409 passing yards, he'd join only Colin Kapernick in the 3000 - 9000 club.

Also from Sipple Taylor Martinez is the nation's returning leading rusher with 2,858 career rushing yards.

Your answer partner is categorically NO!!,,, If he performs well as he's expected to, TM would automatically be a candidate regardless of what and whoever did or said anything. Taylor Martinez and "his offense" cannot afford any sidebars this coming season.

On the other hand we all would exchange your contention for a B1G Championship, a trip to a BCS Bowl and win!

Die hard former Nebraska player Rex Buckhead's name was in the Heisman Trophy early conversation LAST YEAR till he fell off via knee injury!

At a minimum all TM needs to do is play ball and raise his level of performance higher that last year,,,Peace!

  • Yes, promoting TM can only help put NU in the spotlight and that's a good thing.
