Iowa will be better overall in 2012 than it was in 2011. The 2011 team was lucky not to finish 5-7.

How much better, we'll see. Aside from 2009, Iowa's not been a good pass rushing team, because it wasn't the Norm Parker scheme. Where Iowa was hideous in 2010/2011 was in pass defense. Hideous. 62% completion rate the last two years? That'll improve.

    8-4. Maybe 9-3.

    Have trouble seeing it.

They may have a better record due to their schedule but they lost their top WR, only RB, top 1-2 OL and best CB from the suspect pass defense.

i agree and if their spring game is any indication their quarterback doesn't get their offense at all. I watched nearly the entire spring practice and it just looked like backyard ball to me. New OC, New DC and a head coach that specializes only in offensive line play.... I think it's going to be a rough season for the Hawkeyes next year.

I don't think Iowa lost as many good players (respective to some of the guys who were recruited 1-2 years ago) as people have suggested. And before you proceed to list off all the players and give me a pop quiz on who replaces them, yes, I know who was lost. And I have a good idea of who will replace them. If I turn out to be wrong, I'll say it, but I think you'll see a better team, and not just in record.

The RB doesn't bother me in the least. Easiest position to replace. Heck, Iowa's done it. Again and again.

An entirely new coaching staff and they will be a better team? I respect your opinion Sam but I'm just not buying that.

Iowa got an upgrade at OC. Don't buy that "it's all Greg Davis' fault" with Texas. (And Texas will try to sell you on it.) And Ferentz's kid is a rising star in the business. He'll be an OC in 5 years.

On defense, I mean, it's not a new staff. It's a guy who's been there for years now calling the defense.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It's not like it'll be worth a ton if I'm right. But last year, when some suggested Iowa would contend for the league title, I said fourth/fifth in the Legends.

Let me add this, too: Minnesota has more talent than Kill's let on. That whole "we need better players" stuff last year was a sandbag. Now that he's in better health, that team will punk somebody next year. NW. Purdue. Somebody. They'll make a bowl game.

Sam, I will bet you that Minnesota will not make a bowl game. I will put up a $50 gift card to the Drover Steakhouse for you, what shall you put up? (fond of Hooters FYI)

I see all those points... just think it will take a year or two for them to find their footing. I see them anywhere between 8-4 and 6-6 next year. I see them losing to Michigan State, Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan and Nebraska. If they can take care of Penn State, Northwestern and Purdue they could go 9-3 but I don't see it happening.

In any case even if they go 9-3 I doubt they beat a team in the Top 25. If they had our schedule they would easily be going 6-6 or 5-7.

    "Upgrade"?

With all the positives of the former offensive staff's scheme, accolades, wins and selling points, i don't think u can make such a blanket statement.

    Maybe clarify?

Uh………Minnesota is a bottom half of the division team, period. Over the past fifteen years, and three coaches, the best record MN has posted in the B1G is 5-3. They did that once under Glen Mason, who gave MN the appearance of a bowl team by scheduling four of the worst teams he could find in the ooc, and managing to scrape out three wins in conference.

Their normal in-conference record is 3-5. The years when they have managed to scrap together four or five B1G wins were those in which they played most of the rest of the crapy teams like IN, IL, PU, NW, etc.

They are simply not going to get much better, period.

Minnesota has the size. You walk down on the field and look at their guys, they measure up just fine. That's a big team. Some strong guys.

It's not a particularly fast team. Minny had one dude last year - McKnight - who could get over Nebraska vertically.

I do think they'll make a bowl game, going 4-0 in non-conference, beating Northwestern at home and somebody else in the Big Ten.

I don't care how big they are. Every BCS school has big players.

No, Sam, Minnesota isn't getting the sort of skill players that make a difference, and they aren't getting more than a couple of difference-makers from year to year.

As much as we complain about not having the talent to compete, Minnesota takes the dregs of the B1G every year. When you're 12th, 9th, 7th and 7th in recruiting over a four year span, your reasonable expectations are the bottom half of the conference, period.

A 6-6 bowl team is still a 6-6 team, and no better then 2-6 in conference.
