With Alabama's loss over the weekend, it has opened up the very real possibility that we will have a BCS National Championship game that doesn't involve an SEC team.
HOWEVER...
Say Kansas State or Oregon don't run the table which would set up only 2 teams remaining undefeated in either KSU or Oregon along with Notre Dame.
Would the voters be so daring as to vote in a 1-loss Alabama or Georgia OVER Notre Dame?
Keep in mind, back in 2007 the voters were put to this very same test as pure turmoil came about during Conference Championship weekend. #1 Missouri got pounded by Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game. #2 West Virginia got beat by lowly PIttsburgh, and 2 loss #7 LSU beat #14 Tennessee in the SEC Championship game.
That meant LSU vaulted over #4 Georgia, #5 (and 1-loss) Kansas, and #6 Virginia Tech in order to get into the title game against the previous #3 and 1-loss Ohio State.
The voters were put to the challenge of including a 1-loss Kansas. They couldn't do it, and leapfrogged LSU over KU, Georgia, and Virginia Tech even though those teams didn't lose. Keep in mind, LSU was the preseason #1 team in the country, much like Alabama was the unbeatable #1 team in the country up until last week.
If we get an undefeated Oregon or K-State along with an undefeated Notre Dame, I certainly woldn't be surprised if Alabama were to leapfrog over Notre Dame. Especially if they finish the season strong and dominate Georgia in the SEC Championship game.
