SN: "Now or never for these QB's"

  • Taylor Martinez is linked and mentioned. Think his legacy will depend on his ability to win a Big Ten title game in what appears to be the easiest pre-season schedule of his career?

  • Agree with the notion that it's now or never for him. Damn near impossible to picture him as an NFL quarterback.

With that said, this comment stuck me in the side -- They point out that he had career-high interceptions.

While true, I would think it important to acknowledge how many more passes he threw.

2010: 196 Attempts, 7 INT (3.5% of his attempts were INTs)
____: 116 Completions (Threw 1 interception for every 16.57 passes thrown)

2011: 288 Attempts, 8 INT (2.7% of his attempts were INTs)
____: 162 Completions (Threw 1 interception for every 20.25 passes thrown)

2012: 368 Attempts, 12 INT (3.2% of his attempts were INTs)
____: 228 Completions (Threw 1 interception for every 19 passes thrown)

Comparative to his attempts, the amount of interceptions didn't exactly skyrocket. Just a thought.

  • definitely... no championships or bowl wins... if he gets neither again his senior year he will have the best statistical career at Nebraska with nothing to show for it.

Well worthy of a mention. Great leg work BTBR.

Such will be the dichotomy of Taylor Martinez. A kid who was provided more opportunity to lead the team to a championship than any of his predecessors, but was unable to do it.

They say stats don't lie, but they certainly don't tell the whole story. He will surpass practically every good QB we've ever had in the record books, but as you say, will have little or nothing to show for it. At least in the terms most good QB's are judged by; big wins and championships.

That said, the offense should be excellent this year. Failing to win the "big one" will probably have more to do with the defense.
