SI Cover Jinx: Notre Dame Next?

  • Just last week, Collin Klein graced the cover of Sports Illustrated with the following heading prior to their game with Baylor: "27 Things You Need To Know About the Best Player on the Nation's Best Team".

    As we all know, Klein then went out to throw 3 picks as K-State got drilled by lowly Baylor in Waco.

    Now, the Golden Domers appear on the cover of SI this week with the following title: "The Notre Dame Miracle".

    Is Notre Dame and their 'miracle' season the next victim of Sports Illustrated and their cover jinx?

    The Sports Illustrated cover jinx wreaked havoc on Kansas State last week. Will it do the same for Notre Dame against USC?

    I hate Notre Dame too. But if they aren't in it, could it be two SEC teams again?

    Possibly, but I do think that Florida State eliminates Florida from the picture. The winner of the SEC championship game eliminates the loser. Then if ND goes down, you would likely have Oregon in the NC game against the SEC champion.

    It would probably make sense in a way, but then again, you would have another team in the national championship game that didn't win the conference they play in. That would be two years in a row if that happened.

    As part of the long range plan that gets talked about behind closed doors, I think the next phase is arriving at (4) 16 team super conferences. The 8 division winners are the Elite 8 of sorts, and the 4 winners are your Final 4. No 2nd place teams in the final 4, no Notre Dame exclusion. For football purposes, ND will have to join a conference or get left out. The 4 best teams from 4 regions of the country. This will create the most interest.

    Two teams from the same conference in the NC is great for that conference, but holds little interest for the general public. Alabama/LSU was a ratings disaster last year. That doesn't sell the game of college football.

    Delany may be getting the last laugh after every proposal he brought forth.during the.playoff discussions.was shot down.

    He may well have broke the camels back in paving the way towards 4 super conferences in which the 4 conference champs meet in a nice and easy 4 team Final Four playoff.

    If the numbers they gave Maryland are real, this sets up the Big 10 to be able to lure in some monster teams to complete the 16 team league. Notre Dame? Texas? Florida? (And yes, I left the State off of Florida).

    If you can double someones revenue, they are going to listen.
