This was discussed to some degree in the New Coach at Nebraska thread.

This is further evidence that the NCAA has become meaningless. A Paper Tiger at best and part of the problems at hand at worst.

When major programs can consistently bend the rules and in Miami's case egregiously so, and pay little in consequences given the large rewards they reap, how is it that by passing a no-holds-barred dictum on rules of engagement is anything but a death knell to such a superfluous entity?

We are to believe that endorsing a Free-for-All environment is somehow beneficial to college football is an intelligent decision by the NCAA -- how absurd.

The question is how does a program that prides itself on building a culture based on common sense, individual accountability and resolve to mentor and graduate student-athletes that live their lives in a manner that is exemplary deal with the brave new world of 24/7/365 recruiting?

Self regulation is going to be the only manner in which a program can possibly survive in such a cannibalistic environment. Without defining to itself, its coaching staff, recruits, recruits' parents and fan base an approach that is assertive, consistent with their values and pays respect to each for some modicum of civility and privacy there is little doubt that a program will devolve into eating its own, eventually.

I believe that, in Nebraska's case, they must draft a statement of conditions and conduct that are specific and that everyone included in the recruiting process understands, regardless of the elimination of barriers or conduct laid out by the NCAA. This should be a document given to each parent and recruit and recruits H.S. coaches. This should give definition that creates honest expectations that commit Nebraska to an approach that builds respect and honor for their manner in which they will communicate, contact and recruit High School student-athletes.

The University of Nebraska has always prided itself on working diligently to do things the right way. If they set a standard of excellence in a recruiting world gone crazy they will be rewarded by attracting like-minded young men into their program.

They do that, there will be no more Championships at NU. The NCAA was already a joke. Dismissing these rules makes them more of a joke, and hurts anyone trying to do things the right way. If you don't play dirty, you aren't going to get the kids to wins championships.

There is a reason Ole miss has a great class. It isn't because they are just hot right now, because they aren't.

Damn good thing you are not the leader of a program that prepares young men to take a responsible role in our society.

However, you do reflect the current problem in our society that holds that it is just fine to cheat, it's just not cool to get caught.

Agree. However, I believe it will be very important to put forth a statement of intent to recruits and their parents. Nebraska is not going to win a contest to barrage a recruit, however that is.

I liken it to the email contacts that I get promoting anything whether it is for business or pleasure. Those that barrage me everyday usually get automatically deleted or unsubscribed. Those that communicate in a reasoned manner usually are more successful in having me read their message.

So, we're to believe that corruption, cheating and chicanery is the path to glory? Sorry, amigo, if giving the Devil his Due is your view of how to make it in the world you are part of the problem.
