Ron Brown and his backs

  • First let me say I love Ron Brown and what he stands for but.

    I don't like the way he doesn't use his backs and why we are losing backs like baby back ribs in KC on the grill in the summers. No way Heard should be leaving and didn't get more touches and another reason why JoJo is headed to KY jelly with Heard. I just hope he uses the guys a lot more and give them a chance to prove themselves on the GAME FIELD some players aren't practice players but show up on game day. If he doesn't look for more backs to transfer later on.

    Wrong and how would you know this unless you are in his family Mike. Listen this is all about us having the best backfield in college football and its slipping away from us. Just imagine having Green Ameer and Heard and Taylor in the diamond formation all at once so tell me again why you don't think it relevant

  • Sounds to me like when you have as much talent as we do right now there's always going to be some attrition. All these RB's were highly touted out of high school and want to play, doesn't sound illogical at all that one or two would leave just for more playing time...especially with Taylor and Newby in the fold.

    That's not it at all I'm looking at being the best not just being satisfied in our production this year I think it could have been better that's all and us using all out talent not just 1/3 of it.

    Bottom line is we maybe losing some good backs because these days kids want to prove themselves on the field. All these kids wait for the change to play not just be in some doghouse then sit the bench so someone else can play.
    Give them a change.

    I agree but see what you just did there? You included Newby and he hasn't played a down in lincoln as of yet. Next year it will be the same song with a newer back.

  • I battled this out a few days ago and don't really feel like doing it again. Ill just say that this was inevitable when we brought in 3 backs in '11. Blame whoever you want but it was going to happen. I knew and most everyone else did to. Silly to get mad now when we knew the hand we had.

  • And as much as it sucks I'm pretty sure if we land another stud RB or 2 next cycle we will have more attrition. When you have so many studs back there you can rotate alot to get everyone carries but your Also not giving any one of them a chance to really get into a groove. I think it's a pretty fine line trying to keep everyone happy and its just not plausible if we want to keep our production. I hear where your coming from but IMO I would stick with what's been working and getting us yards.

    It is a bit different getting a Number 2 carries than a Number 3,4, and 5. We didn't get our No. 2 enough carries, that is why he left. Why would he think this year would be any different.

  • I blame whoever hands out the playing time...whether that be Brown, Beck, or Pelini. Number 2 needs more touches no matter who number one is...it is however, much harder to distribute touches when you have a running QB. As a player who is not the starter you are always told to take advantage of the snaps you do get to earn more future snaps. I think that Heard more than took advantage of his touches. And on top of that asking that he switch positions was a bit of a slap in his face. With the new guys coming in the loss shouldn't hurt us too much but I think he is a guy that made us a better team so it is unfortunate.
