Would have loved Heard to stay on -- like him as a person and a player -- but I'm not overly upset about this. It was pretty clear to me that he was either going to be backing up Abdullah or Turner. Would love to have that depth, but oh, well.

As for not being given a shot... As far as I know, he was given a shot every day at practice, just like everyone else. Unlike us, the staff has more than a few hour, 12-14 weeks a year, to evaluate players. That said, I have no inside info, so maybe there was something beneath the surface that I'm not aware of.

This one hurts. I didn't think he got enough touches. Seemed like he was a step away from breaking it on a lot of his carries. I was hoping Beck would get him in the game more often this next year in different formations. It would have been nice to have Abdullah, Cross, Bell, Turner, Heard, and Martinez in all at the same time. Would cause for nightmare match ups. So who redshirts now, Newby or Taylor?
