Quality v. Quantity

  • So what do you think as of today, folks (1/31)?

With D. Martinez in the fold, Veii appearing to be a shoe-in, and Gage also looking good, how would you appraise?

Do you think we've gone into "quantity over quality" mode, or do you think these late additions are legitimate prospects?

    Just taking the pulse here.

I don't think we have any commits, including Veii and Gage, that I would consider as reaches. So I think we are still in quality mode. They might not be as good as some of the players high on the coaches board, but I still think they are good players with a lot of potential. Some commits though will need a lot of coaching to be able to contribute. Hopefully the staff can provide that.

Seems like a little of both to me. These guys certainly look like plan C's or D's to me. Maybe Martinez being the exception considering how long he's been on the radar.

  • The last few players we landed and the few left we are chasing after dont look as good a quality players as we need to be at game changers..

With that said i dont see very many at difference maker's on this class more just filling a need..Lost our best player to Morrow and just lucky Love was already commited or we may have lost him to..Stanton was great before hurting his knee, but he is a risk just like Cody S who never worked out..

It's a step in the right direction.

    I like Martinez's film...a lot.

Johnson is still a must get for us.

Let's see what happens with Gage, Veii and Mixon yet as well. Even though they are late offers, I don't see them has Mason Wald-Bronson Marsh type additions late in the game. They have some ability.

nu or mods - I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Drake's recruiting process. Seems to be a prospect with very good speed, good size, better then average athleticism, good football pedigree and I assume he is fully qualified. I've got to believe the lack of many more offers had to do with the more or less open secret that he was an NU lock?

Not staff, but I think his rating and offer list also has to do with the competition he played against. It isn't exactly the best.

I think that'd be a big part of it.
He also played at a very low level of competition so I can see that scaring people away.

In terms of other offers, his coach did an interview on Scout the other day and said there were other schools who came by and offered but weren't really considered.

All that being said...one thing I do think you have wrong is the qualification side. I think he will ultimately be fine, but there have been rumors of being a qualification risk.

None of the offers have looked like total reaches to me. Honestly, though, I don't mind reaching a little on someone like Sayles (or someone else) and hoping they pan out, if it gets us to 28.

Pretty weak assessment here. There are game changers. Several defensive players with that potential.

Also, how is a name like Knevel or Newby or Hannon mentioned?

The talent we have is nice. I like the taken we have committed. It's just frustrating knowing that it could have been UNREAL. I think a good start to nex season could mean alot towards recruiting. A BCS game would really help our chances at finishing the year in a stronger manner than we have in 2012 and 13
