Phile Steele Preseason #22: Michigan

Obviously, it looks like Phil Steele does not favor the Maize and Blue in the Legends division this year.
The Wolverines lost some key personnel on both sides of their line, and the schedule is pretty difficult starting with a neutral site trip to Texas to face the defending National Champs.
They then face a pesky Air Force squad without any rest and finish out their OOC schedule with a trip to Notre Dame.
A road trip to Purdue looks to be tougher than many think as Purdue very well could be the most improved team in the conference next year. Michigan State @ home and then road games to our beloved Huskers and a season-ending rivalry game with the Buckeyes.
With Phil through 20 of his Top 40 teams, it looks like Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Nebraska will all make his Top 20 pres-season rankings.

Before I answer: For as great as Steele is at what he does, I avoid his site like the plague. Thing causes seizures.

Not Blue, but am seriously considering the Money Line on Michigan.
'Bama has to replace 7 starters on defense including 6 that were drafted into the NFL and 4 of those in the 1st 35 picks. Yes, 'Bama has amazing talent, but you just don't plug in the next guy and replace Barron, Hightower, Kirkpatrick, and Upshaw.
They also lost their 2 best WR's on offense along with Trent Richardson. They'll be very good again, but it looks an awful lot like their 2010 team that just wasn't ready till halfway through the season. Michigan gets the perfect opportunity to catch them in the 1st game of the year while they break in a bunch of new faces on defense.

I think this ranking is based off the fact he is betting on an Alabama win over them in the first game. I for one would not be suprised at all if Michigan won that game. D Rob can create headachs for any Defense and Bama will be replacing a lot of key players.
