  • Anyone qualify for the CWS yet? Last I saw LSU was down 3-1 in the 7th. And damn lucky to have won the first game against Stony Brook.
And I know UCLA can qualify with a victory today also.

    Thanks k9.

I'm torn on LSU. I like a good underdog story. But I also love it when LSU and their fans come to town.

Yeah, they are a great fan base. You see what their attendance is? Average over 10,000 per game. Number one in the country by a loooong ways.

But I'll tell you this, if LSU hadn't hit those solo HR's last night, Stonybrook would be coming to Omaha tonight.

  • All I know is that the B1G was 1-4 in the first round and eliminated early.

Heard all year that the B1G was better than what I said was a very weak conference. .. I opined all year that the B1G was awful. Purdue was a 7 seed at home and went 1-2.

Michigan State played twice and went 0-2.

If we can't win this conference consistently in baseball, we may as well shut down the program.

In baseball, the B1G is considered a mid-major so, that automatically makes them a weak conference. I might quibble with the very weak part, tho.

No way do I want to shut down the program but 4th place and 1-2 in the B1G tourney ain't gonna cut it, And it won't cut it for Erstad either.

  • Original National Seeds:
    1. Florida ---------- 2. UCLA
    3. Florida State -- 4. Baylor
    5. Oregon --------- 6. North Carolina
    7. LSU ------------- 8. South Carolina

No Carolina was eliminated in their regional.
    UCLA has advanced to Omaha.
    Six others are still alive.
Two of them (LSU &Oregon) could be eliminated today.
Four of them (Florida, FSU, Baylor and So Carolina) could go to Omaha today.
Unseeded Arizona has advanced to Omaha.

As of now, my guess is that six national seeds will come to Omaha + unseeded Arizona and Kent St or Stonybrook. Much will be cleared up today.

I agree, SB should've been on their way to Omaha already. Incredible combination of luck and clutch performances for LSU to still be alive.

  • Wow. Stony Brook just took down the mighty LSU rigers to earn a trio to the CWS. Didn't even know they were a D1 baseball team.

Yeah. There are nearly 300 D1 baseball teams so they made the list. Don't know much about them except they're out on Long Island. North shore, maybe 30 miles in from the Hamptons.

Do know they are quietly good. More than one MLB team has a Stonybrook guy.

I know who I'll be pulling for in Omaha. What an amazing story Stony Brook has been. They pretty much owned LSU all weekend.

Florida, UCLA and Florida State are also coming to town. FSU is another team I'll be pulling for.

  • Anyone know all the teams?

    So far I got:
    Stony Brooke
    UCLA
    FSU
    Florida
    Arizona

    Arkansas vs Baylor tonight...
Oregon vs Kent State also tonight...
    Who else?

  • So far, these teams to Omaha -
    1. Arizona
    2. UCLA
    3. Florida
    4. FSU
    5. Stony Brook

    Three spots left today
South Carolina v Oklahoma (SC leading, should be easy winner here)
Baylor v Arkansas (All tied, one game apiece)
Oregon v Kent St (All tied, one game apiece)

    Stony Brook notes:
    RPI - 86 (Huskers - 93, FYI)
    Record 46-11
4th seed in the Miami Regional
BA .334, 3rd in the country (we were .315, 8th)
    Scoring 7.2, 8th (we were 7.1 9th)
    ERA 3.01, 12th ( we were 4,40, 146th -hint, hint)
Seven players to the MLB draft..... SEVEN!

Im not an FSU fan, Im rooting for a good friend...

  • The only teams Stony Brook played from schools you have heard of are East Carolina (got swept 0-3), Kansas (1-1), and Minnesota (1-1). The rest of the season was against Maine, Holy Cross, Yale, Binghampton, etc. Without the auto conference bid, these guys don't get in. This is like a 14 or 15 seed in Men's hoops getting to the elite 8.

    Skerz

  • I typically root for LSU or TCU ... but neither are there... im going to have to adopt a new team this year... and i dont want it to be stony Brook even thought typically i go for the underdog... I am thinking Oregon or FSU... will have to buy new gear this year for the first time in awhile.

Correct, and I'll be the one to say it - Stony Brook is just one of many, many decent average teams of no particular distinction. Just an average team who got tournament hot. It happens.

I won't be rooting for them or against them. They got to Omaha, so congrats and good luck to them but I doubt they go very far. I can't see any reason to think of them as a "Team Of Destiny" or something like that. Besides, I really wanted LSU to get here. Oh well.

Seven draft picks is notable, though.

I've always been an FSU fan. They have the most trips to Omaha without a title. It'd be nice to see them finally shake that monkey.

Yep, LSU fans at the CWS are a blast. Like the Texas fans as well. South Carolina's are pretty solid.

Kind of like the FSU call. Hard to believe they have never won a CWS with all the times they have been there.

    Skerz

  • South Carolina in. Three-peat?

    Teams to Omaha.
    1. Arizona
    2. UCLA
    3. Florida
    4. FSU
    5. Stony Brook
    6. South Carolina

  • Someone should tell Stony Brook and Kent St that northern teams can't make it to the CWS.

Hopefully this will quiet Big Ten coaches...
