Nebraska visit impresses Hart

Greg Hart said the visit was better than expected. Find out what that means for his timetable and where he ranks among Nebraska's tight end targets.

  • I think that the selection of Els and the staff analysis and discussion of their recruiting approach has greatly improved their approach and effectiveness with recruits. Watching a lot of film with coaches has to be a very good thing if you're a recruit.

Just an all around good report, Schaef, nice job.

  • I am really excited to see what comes of the Big Red Recruiting Weekend. It really seems that Els is a natural at this whole recruiting coordinator role. Something about the current process at least "feels like" it is more effective and better focused. Perhaps it is because Els is a Nebraska native and better understands what Nebraska's DV is. Differentiating Value is key in an sales pitch. What can Nebraska offer that programs A,B and C can't... and how does that effect you as a potential recruit...? Perhaps it is simply the product of being in the 2nd year recruiting to the Big Ten... everything seems more fluid in the recruiting. It is nice to hear that Nebraska probably has as nice or nicer facilities than anyone else in the country. I mean we all kind of know it or think we do, it's just nice to hear kids rave about it and solidify the notion.

This team is not too far away from taking a step up again on the national level. A return to the BCS bowl game type seasons on a perrenial basis is getting near I think. If Beck can get the offense going like I think he will, it will make Bo and Puch's life a little easier on D and this team could get going pretty good. I think we have most of the ingredients already in the cupboard... it's just a matter of putting it all together now. Of course we are starting to and always looking to add "better" ingredients as we go. But there is a lot of young talent on the offensive side of the ball now and with Taylor hopefully growing up even more this year and the offensive line getting better as a whole... this team could do some damage. We have got a pretty dangerous group of TE's and WR's... a RB group that is 2nd to none in my opinion with Rex, Ameer and perhaps Heard and mix that with the potential road grader Mike Marrow at FB/TB and Imani Cross looks pretty well built and close to D1 ready coming in too. If Taylor can finally relax and his comfort level in the offense allows him to just "play" and not have to "think" about it as much.. he could be a nightmare for defenses. He was so good as a freshman running the ball because he didn't think.. he just took the snap and knew he was gonna take off like a rocket. If he can get that running ability back combined with a good ability to execute in the passing game... look the {beep} out. All that Heisman talk we heard back then could come right back in a hurry. Taylor has that kind of athletic ability, so if he can pull the mental side into focus we may have something special with him over the next 2 seasons. I know he wants to win a championship and I believe he can.

I agree with you on most of your points. I agree with our facilities being top notch and how they do wonders in helping to sell the program to recruits. And I also agree with your assessment of the team and how it's on the verge of something very special. I think a BCS bowl game or two is just what the doctor ordered to get Nebraska football back in the media and in recruit's living rooms. I respectfully disagree with your opinion of our running back situation. I think that we lack serious talent behind Rex Burkhead. I think Ameer is more of a scat back or flanker type of back and that Heard will probably stay on the defensive side of the ball. I certainly hope Marrow and Cross can do some damage but I'd love to see Nebraska go into the JUCO ranks to bring in a quality running back that has decent size and speed. With Green back home in Texas I just think there's a big drop off in talent behind Rex. I agree with your thoughts on Taylor. He's going to a better quarterback this upcoming season than he was last season. I think once he shows the rest of college football that he can throw the ball, defenses will respect that part of his game and that will only open up running lanes for him and our running backs. Bottom line-Nebraska football is about to get very good and I for one am looking forward to a run at a conference championship and possibly a national championship in the next few years.

  • The tight end position becomes wide open after Reed and Cotton graduate. A tight end recruit with good size and decent speed who can block well and has good hands can step right in a year from now and get plenty of playing time. I think Hart knows this and I'd be surprised if he didn't commit to Nebraska.
