  • Getting elite talent in the secondary would be huge for us

  • Priest Willis could play as a safety... IMO there isn't a whole bunch of drop off between him and Cravens. Hopefully he's paying more than lip service when he says he's interested in Nebraska.

  • Our recruiting is just sad. Until we can start winning recruiting battles against all these other schools that are winning National Titles......we have no chance of beating them on the field. Im kind of starting to get sick of the "kind" approach we take to getting recruits. Other schools push kids to commit.....and guess what..they get huge talent in their classes. We get a bunch of 3 stars and are celebrating the 1-2 4-star guys we get. It all starts with recruiting......and we dont have a recruiting class close to National Title caliber. As a die hard Husker its a huge bummer to see.

Our recruiting this year seems to be doing just fine. We're trying to bring in the best recruits in the nation and we have some tough competeion out there. It seems this year that we are doing new things and hustling to go get the guys we want. It appears that we are way ahead of last years recruiting and on our way to a great class.

I completely agree. There is room for improvement on The recruiting front but by no means am I mad or disappointed (besides maybe our QB hunt). I think so far sO good...

I agree with this as well. If i remember correctly we both had him in our top 3 remaining recruits for Defense. Priest is a beast.

  • Thanks, Mike. So Miles is getting recruits to come in, big time recruits. And he's signing some good kids that are transfering from good schools.

Miles is recruiting for a Program that hasn't won/shared a conference title for 60 years, to a City, rumor has it, who air services are limited and its difficult for kids to make the trip.

Miles is fun to be around, from Tom, all the way down to me, streaming his media events. Some way, he connects with everyone and people buy into his ideas and plans. His energy seems limitless. If Miles can coach with the big boys, during the games, party time is here.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but take a look at how Nebraska ranks with just 8 recruits. Look at NU's avg. star rating: 88, much higher than teams ranked above them for some odd reason...BUT, look who all is ranked below them at this point in time...

This is the best recruiting staff and system we've seen during Bo's tenure and for quite awhile. Bo and his guys are getting quality, dedicated student-athletes...maybe not as much hype as when Bill Callahan was here, but 1/2 of his guys were busts.

  • I personally feel the staff is doing as good a job recruiting in their particular situation as can be expected. Lets face it, its very difficult to get top recruits to commit when we are not a top ten(or even 15) team. The only way you can do that is by selling the idea we are a program "on the rise" and four consecutive 9-4 seasons makes that difficult to do. This is one of the main reasons I think this year is such a huge year for Bo and his staff. If we could have a one or maybe two loss season, play in the big 10 championship, bcs bowl game, I think it would really open doors to who we could pull in recruiting wise. If the staff has a relationship with some of these kids a great season on the field may get a few kids committed other places to take a look at us again later in the year.

It's a classic "chicken or the egg" dilemma. Which comes first stellar recruiting or does winning feed into stellar recruiting? It's hard to say, and I think it varies from program to program but for Nebraska to take that next step i think they need to win B1G.

I agree, I'm impressed with the recruiting effort so far this year. It will be interesting to see if there's improvement during the season from past years, where they've had a tendency to fall off a bit.

If they keep this effort up for the entire cycle, I think Husker fans will be thrilled with the result. Especially if we put together a great season on the field.

  • There are a couple of things that need to be commented on.

First, Nebraska has NOT had four staright seasons of 9-4. I guess it's easier to overlook the fact that in 2009 and 2010, the Huskers actually finished 10-2 on the regular season.

Secondly, what the heck is so wrong with 9-4 in a season where they changed conferences, had to play an entirely new schedule that was purposely pumped up by the conference to insure that the Husker wouldn't win the conference?

Third, last season was one in which we had to replace five NFL-caliber players (including Crick). We were lucky not to lose two ore games when you get right down to it.

When you continue to win 70% of your games, even under the extra duress with which they had to deal last year, is actually a sign of excellent coaching.

As to having a season with only one or two losses, we've had them. There are simply too any fans who equate losing a CCG, or a bowl game with losing in the regular season.

For those who keep clamoring for 10 or 11 wins, consider the alternative. It shouldn't be difficult. Think back a few years when we lost seven games twice in four years.

Recruiting may not be what we'd like at the momnet, but the recruiting season is barely a third over. Let's start to criticize when it's warranted, not simply out of your personal frustrations.

A review of Bo's recruiting clearly shows the current staff taking a much more aggressive approach, and they are clearly pursuing the best players at eery possible turn.

To dismiss past recruiting as ineffective displays something of an ignorance of his classes in 2009, 2010 and 2011; all three of which were no worse than the third best classes in the B1G.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

Happy to see your first post, cleve. I agree with the intrinsic values that have been the make up of NU's most successful teams. Although, I wouldn't say any of our members are ignorant, maybe 'misdirected' biggrin, but this is a pretty good group of informed folks.

Bo has us on the right track and believe that after we win the B1G title and going to and winning the Rose Bowl will help that process. It is going to be a process, one step at a time.

Congrats on your first post. How do you like our site?

  • Some good points but some of the past recruiting wasn't very effective. We have no lb depth or te depth because of that ineffective recruiting. We haven't had many top o line and have had a lot of misses recruiting. T Mart has improved but the reason we have had bad qb play and lack of depth is recruiting. This year seems better but call a spade a spade. The previos years under Bo recruiting haven't been good. His highest ranked class was 20 and starling didn't make or Jackson. Now Jackson is coming but green is gone.

  • Also in 09 we lost 3 regular season games not 2. Bo can coach but it we need to take them step. In recruiting and on the field.

I would suggest that we all knew when B.C. was fired, whoever came in had a rebuilding job to do. None guessed that NU would be competing for a CCG so soon. So that's to Bo's credit. But he is still on a growing curve and he is showing that he is starting to mature as a HC.

Bo has NU relevant and respected, now he needs to get them to the next step to win a very difficult Legends Division title and then play in the CCG. That is the next level of achievement we all believe is the next standard by which we hope to begin to evaluate teams into the future.

Spending time on woulda, coulda, shoulda does little to focus on where the program is now and how it continues to improve in all areas. Bo has completed one of his very first goals...to establish a culture of solid-citizens, committed to each other to win at the highest level.

This is the first year the team seems to have a very tight-knit kinship, as most all of these kids are "Bo's kids"...if that (kindred spirit) continues to build NU will have a great shot to have a very good year...they will have to create their own "luck" as the B1G schedule is a real grinder, so they need to have Lady Luck on their side this year, also.
