I'll play along with you here - Who else could we have gotten in this class? Do we reach for the sake of filling numbers?
We would loved to have gotten 2-3 more guys that we TARGETED, but we didn't and that sucks. We still have a quality class. It's over now and the coaches can't do anything about the misses. However, what they can do is award current guys who have busted their asses and earned a schollie.

You are wrong....it's the 85 limit...not the class.
http://oversigning.com/testing/index.php/2011/01/25/oversigning-and-the-big-10-conference/
"The Big Ten has no issue with oversigning because it banned the practice in 1956. The conference actually loosened its rule in 2002 to allow schools to oversign by three players, but even that rule is drastically different from the NCAA rule now in effect. According to Big Ten associate commissioner Chad Hawley, schools are allowed three over the 85-man limit, not the annual 25-man limit. If, for example, Michigan ends a season with 20 open scholarship spots, then Michigan may sign 23 players. No more.
If a Big Ten program chooses to oversign, Hawley said, it then must document exactly how it came under the 85-scholarship limit. That way, coaches are less likely to cut a player who has done nothing wrong other than fail to live up to his recruiting hype. "If you've oversigned, you're going to have to report back to the conference," Hawley said. "Come the fall, you're going to have to explain how you came into compliance."

Are you kidding me Daddy - Can you honestly say without Big Red Kool-Aid stains on your face that the tight-end positition is in good hands after this this year ?? We will have Sutton along with another of the Cotton prodigy to man the position. Do you honestly think that either of them is up to All Conference material ???? I am so tired of your insistent sunshine pumping...... And you think that Moore will all a sudden be an anchor on the blind side..... Clowney made him look like a fool and they were both true frosh.....
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

I have no idea, and neither do you.
I don't really give a chit if you're tired of my sunshine pumping.
I'm sick and tired of the negative nellies who find every way possible to slam this staff and the Head Coach .
Every friggin' time I write a sunshine pumping post is in direct response to more of your/their negative crap.
Stop posting negative crap and I won't have a reason to pump sunshine.
And you, in particular, can kiss my rosy red --------.

Here's what we know about the tight end position for 2013.
We only have 2 scholarship players on the roster NOW that are slated to be here. One of them hasn't gone through a practice yet. The other has been nothing more than a scout team guy. The rest are walk-ons who also haven't done anything of significance yet. Long has a handful of snaps, and that might be overestimating it.
Could some of these guys be good? Absolutely. In fact, I like Sutton...a lot. I also like Cotton's bloodlines. But that doesn't change the fact that there is little depth and the depth we do have is very very young and absolutely unproven at this point in time.
It's not slamming the coach, it's point out the obvious. And you can be real naive and narrow minded if you choose and call me a negative nellie. Of course, by doing it, you are choosing to ignore the positive things I said about the class as well.

I have to agree to a point with you. I think this is Pelini's best class to date but I too am disappointed we couldn't close on two or three of these guys. I think we have some major holes on our staff as far as recruitiing goes, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Let's face it, if you are an O-lineman what would make you want to come here and play. Our offense is not suited for taking the next step to the NFL nor is BC a quality O-line coach. When is the last time you have heard his name mentioned as far as recruiting. It is huge for these kids to be able to be recruited by their position coach.

We should have closed better on some prospects we already had, and found more talent, not reaches. I think the coaches thought like most of the posters on the other board. Lets go after top talent, since we have a small class. Lets lay all of our eggs in the same basket. When you play soft and not that good at closing you are going to get burned. We should always go after top talent and get a lot of them. But we should always have a plan B. SInce the coaches thought the class size would be smaller than what it really could have been, they didn't have a plan B. Now, don't get me wrong we signed some good players, but just like Solich, Not enough of them.

Funny you should dump on Barney for one of his best attributes: he's a good recruiter. Garrison is a good hire and relates very well to the OL on and off the field. He's also becoming a very good recruiter. Things are going in the right direction. Keep the faith.
