Martinez, Crouch, Frazier

  • So Sip posts this quick blog about Martinez's passing stats versus Crouch and Frazier. They are interesting numbers but they aren't anything new.

Also, the blog doesn't go nearly deep enough to know anything of value.

How many yards per game were Crouch and Frazier throwing for? What type of rushing yards did Crouch and Frazier have? How many pass attempts per interception/TD? And the big one I want to know, how many rush attempts per fumble?

What I want to know is how do you all think Crouch and Frazier would have done in Becks offense this year? Do you think we would have seen nearly as much throwing if the option was successful enough to keep us out of 3rd and long situations or do you think that Beck would have continued to throw the ball between 21 and 23 times a game like he did this year with Martinez.

Uh…I'll only comment on one thing.

Every one of TM's fumbles have come when he's had to run from pressure, not on a designed run.

There is a major difference between having to tuck and run and running purposefully.

Your rush attempts per fumble crack is specious and you know it.

  • Regardless how its spun, ball security with Martinez is an incredibly major issue.

You try holding onto a football when three DL are smashing you into the ground.

It was an issue only when his blocking/protection broke down.

For all the angst about him getting hit too hard or not learning how to go down when he ran, he rarely, if ever, fumbled on those hits. In fact, I don't even remember him getting up slowly after one of them.

Ball security was an issue when he was trying to escape from trouble.

Is Taylor Martinez the only quarterback in known history to deal with bad protection? Is he only quarterback facing pressure? He still fumbles a high amount of times. It doesn't matter if it's a snap, a sack, a 40-yard run, a fumble is always a bad result of a play.

Martinez has come a long way in some areas of his game: reads, timing and a few other things. However, pressure or no pressure, fumbling as much as he does is detrimental to the offense's ability to sustain drive.

No, Mike, he's not, but I bet if you take a look at QBs that have you will also find a high percentage of turn-overs too.

I'm not arguing whether a fumble is bad or not, I'm arguing whether or not you can blame the QB for all those turn-overs.

Let's face it, the QB is most vulnerable when trying to pass the football. Defenses know it,and that's why they blitz. That's why they'll send eight guys on a play; to force something bad to happen.

QBs fumble when they get hit in vulnerable positions. Try as they might, I can't think of a single QB that hasn't fumbled when getting hit by a DL who has gone unblocked, or a Safety that the FB whiffed on.

The fact remains that our OL woes have continued for the past three years, due primarily to a lack of quality depth. Until we get this issue fixed, we're going to have a recurrence of the fumbling issues,no matter who our QB is.

DA: When T-mart starts on a run play or scrambls do you hold your breath hoping that T-mart will not fumble? Did Tommy Frazier or the other QB's mentioned in this form also make you hold your breath thinking that they are about to fumble?

    Kram

  • T mart lacks poise, leadership, pocket presence, vision, good judgement, consistency and seems jumpy in the face of adversity (- ohio st.). I don't care if he breaks every QB record in Nebraska football history the kid lacks way to many intangibles to be compared to any of the NU QB greats.
