Yep. Don't see any way this doesn't turn out bad.

Hummm - I wouldn't bet on it either way right now.

I don't know if Marcus reads the mesage boards or not - but if he does I'm sure he prefers reading what they are saying on the Kentucky boards. Probably all 9 or 10 fans that they have who pay any attention to football are supporting him. Not so much on Husker boards - which is understanable.

  • I haven't seen many speaking poorly of him. Just speaking facts. If he chooses Kentucky it'd be a mistake. Fact.

Your post makes no sense. Sorry. Just calling a spade a spade. Is Morrow some recruiting guru now? He happens to be good friends with one of our recruits dad and is using it to his advantage at his new school/position and now it's because Bo instilled him with some crazy power that he's now using against us. Conspiracy thinking right there.

Exactly. The only thing that "GA" signifies is a testament to Morrow's coaching ability, or lack therof. This would be no different if a FT AC moved and decided to undercut his old school. Sadly, Morrow wasn't even able to get a FT coaching gig, Bo helped him out and... I've been comparing Morrow to John Blake. I don't think that is fair, though. Blake's resume was FAR more accomplished than Morrows...

You use whatever tools are in the bag, You use what you've got. You'd rather we slow down recruiting with a coach out? If THAT happened, people would be screeching that Bo wasn't doing everything possible... grumble

We need to find a way to avoid these kinds of kids with overly protective mothers. I don't know how you do that.

The distance thing really does seem to be a factor, but then why let your child commit to a place thats 800 miles away if you are just going to go back and try to sway his decision later on?

We need to find kids whose parents are welcoming the best opportunity rather than the closest opportunity. Once again, no idea how you do that. Getting to know the parents early on in the process couldn't hurt though.

I don't think anyone is going to come up with a method to reliably do this.

Why do the kids and parents take the N offer? It's insurance for them. They don't care what it does to us later.

  • According to google, It's 5 hours 48 min from University of Kentucky to Cardinal Mooney
It's 13 hours 38 min from UNL to Cardinal Mooney

A flight from Omaha to Akron is 3 hours 20min w one stop. Drive from Epply to Lincoln is about 1hr. Akron to Youngstown is 1 hour. So all together with all other variables, its about a 6.5-7.5 hour trip.

Is MM or Momma McWilson going to make that 6 hour drive often? idk, prob a few times. But all together the difference in travel could potentially be not that much time. I know it's more $$ to fly but roundtrip tickets the weekend of our bye week next season are between $350-$400. I'm sure if you really wanted to you could find better pricing or the money could get to the family somehow....

At the end of the day, distance should just be a small factor. I also do understand this is a big decision so he really needs to weigh all options. I have no problem with him doing so or any other kid who waivers. But it should come down to this...

Do you want to get a degree and play football at Nebraska or Kentucky. I think it's a no brainer.

If you track NU's offers and then the programs that quickly offer after an NU offer, it becomes quite obvious that they (competing programs) respect and use Bo and his coaches talent evaluations to recruit to their programs. That is why kids accept an NU offer. They can then go fishing thereafter.

  • If McWilson goes to Kentucky for sure... he's a moron. there's no sugar coating it. He got duped by a sleezy recruiter into thinking Kentucky football would ever be something. If he actually falls for all that crap they are selling he's a lot less smart than I thought he was.

    Not necessarily

People need to realize that he may just value things differently than we as Husker fans do, Things like being closer to home, having someone he feels comfortable with that he can rely on, playing against the best. It goes on.

We value things like our academic support, the 9-10 wins a year because they belong to us. That doesn't mean they are weighed the same by someone else. Just because we weigh the 9 win seasons over proximity doesn't mean others do. Just because we value our academic support doesn't mean it's weighed the same as playing in the SEC.

We'll just view him as a moron though because his departure hurts us.

I bit harsh, but I would have to agree.

UK has absolutely nothing to hang their hat on as far as being competitive in the SEC, and their current recruiting class is 14th in the conference.

The fact that MM would mention the word "dynasty" indicates that Marrow, Stoops, et al, are used car salesmen extraordinaire.

Maybe Stephen King was wrong. Maybe you CAN polish a turd.

not because he's left, if he left of Ohio State, Michigan or some team that actually has a possibility to make him into anything or their program into anything I might be singing a different tune. But he has bought a ton of BS from Marrow and Stoops and they've turned him against a team he was committed to for over a year.

Oh well, in the end, we'll still be Nebraska, and they'll still be Kentucky. If goes there, I hope he enjoys college life because he sure won't be enjoying winning or doing anything notable on the field.

    No...it's because he left period.

For you...winning outweighs proximity. For him...it doesn't. That doesn't make him a moron. For you our academic support and facilities outweigh a strong family relationship with someone. For him...it doesn't. That doesn't make him a moron.

    Here's my deal.

If this is a football decision and he's looking at Kentucky because Stoops is going to create a new "dynasty" at Kentucky (I could barely type that without laughing) and having Marrow there is a plus. He's ignorant and gullible.

If, he just wants to be with Vince Marrow... then commit already. And if that's the case, I don't understand why he waited until January to all of the sudden realize that Marrow leaving made a difference and he desperately wants to be with him.

I was somewhat of nustudent's opinion until i say the words "new dynasty" being reported as coming from marcus's mouth. It tells me it is about winning football games and he is gullible. We may have some holes but we are far closer to a bcs game then kentucky.

Since you asked I'm feeling that:

McWilson is a REAL and significant loss. Very good player, athletic and really high football IQ. Very important position for NU, especially this year. This was, IMO the best recruit we had at this position. To repeat we took a significant hit.

But life goes on and time will tell us more about how good McWilson is and who might step up for us at the safety position in the coming years. - For example I remember walk-on Matt O'Hanlon playing at a near all conference level by his senior year in Pelini's secondary.
