  • Justin, do you have a gut feeling on which way he goes? I wasn't able to really draw much of a standout from Q's quotes. Thanks much for the piece. I think we all are looking for any good news around here.... a committment here would be huge

    30% Iowa: homeboy goes there.

30% NU: Relationship and knowing NU's defensive staff mostly and Blackshirt "brand" name-haha.

    40% Rutgers: close to home.

BTW, feel free for those who follow recruiting to add more or your reasons. Also, im guessing QL is thinking early PT wherever he goes.

About Iowa, would someone commit to a school without knowing the coordinator? Or does he know? Does it matter?

  • If it's early playing time he wants... it looks like the field will be wide open to win a spot with Lavonte graduating and Fischer's total suckitude. He and Will Compton (assuming Compton continues to mature in the right direction), and Mike Rose could be a good combo. That and Zaire could complement well too... so, maybe it's not that wide open.... ahahahah. A lot of young talent coming in, just not much proven at the D1 level

Yes sir, Santos will be at the top of the list after a redshirt year. He's great.

    He is?

Maybe he is, but don't forget all the great things that Coach Clown, I mean Coack Ek said about Fisher, Whaley, especially Whaley, and Compton after their RS year.

  • Don't get your hopes up on this one guys, he's going to Rutgers. Rutgers insiders saying it's a done deal as of this morning.

  • Bummer. BTW, I saw a quote from jared saying he will be a MLB. Guessing he is planning on REALLY adding (good) weight.

BTW, I have seen Jared listed at anywhere from 6-4 to 6-1. Probably in the middle?

  • He's as good as N. LH at TOS has him at 100% N and I tend to agree. We got him

  • Isn't LH at about 50% on his guesses? (05%?)

  • I'm starting to believe its Rutgers. And for some reason, I believe Fuller will go to Rutgers as well. Hope I'm wrong.

  • Yep. THink this goes Rutgers way. While I would rather lose him to Rutgers than Iowa this is another target that we put a lot of time investment in to see no return. Diggs, JW (I know he is still committed as of today but...), and Lambert.

Honest question. Is it harder to pull guys away from home than it used to be?

  • Can sometimes be an issue of playing time. This isn't 20 years ago when kids were willing to wait three years to play. I don't mean to be all "back in the day...." but I think that issues like early playing time weigh heavier these days. It's an instant gratification society we live in.

That being said, back when I was their age, $5 got you a movie ticket, a popcorn, and a whooping' and the whoopin' was free.

The thing a lot of people are missing with these guys staying home (or near home) is that many of them are willing to leave for the right program. Lambert was favoring OU for quite some time before they stopped recruiting him. Whether it be the good but not great seasons we're experiencing or our coaches' recruiting style, we're starting to see an increasing number of prospects stay close to home for lesser programs (not teams, but programs) because it's not worth it to them to leave across the country to play for Nebraska. Some of these guys (Deion Jones, for example) were going to stay close to home regardless, but others could be pulled if it were the right program. We just have to work harder to convince them that we're the right program.

Another factor today IMO - with the proliferation of scouting, games on TV, highlight packages, etc., is that kids don't have to go to Nebraska or Texas or Florida State to be recognized.

You can go to Bethune-Cookman or Carson-Newman or Nevada and the NFL will find you.

LH hits on another one of his 100 percent locks. Ronnie Stanley was another that was already penciled in as a starter for Nebraska.
