Johnny Stanton at Elite 11

  • They are doing testing at the Elite 11 even right now... obviously Stanton is looking to prove that he isn't just a physical freak but a great QB as well. The finals started today (July 18) and end on Sunday (July 22). ESPN will broadcast the finals in two parts on August 7th and 14th both a 7:00pm ET...

Johnny topped everyone in the vertical jump so far at 34.9", he also tied for first in "power ball toss" with Shane Morris at 39' (that might alleviate some people's questions about arm strength.

Not sure what he ran his 40 in, but he wasn't the fastes. Kincaide, Bateman and Jennings took home those honors I believe.

Looks like he was rated tied for second in athleticism.

A 34.9 inch vertical for a 220 pound H.S. football player is astounding.

I do think this kid is going to be special. He is going to have the leadership qualities of a Rex Burkhead. He makes, good, quick decisions on the field, has good passing skills, especially on the move and is exceptionally quick, "slippery" and powerful when he pulls the ball down and runs. I think the thing that surprised me the most was his quickness. He is not particularly fast, but he is very quick.

I know a lot of people like to compare him to Tebow for his running abilities, but I see him as a potential Kellen Moore. Has that winner's persona, is not lightening fast but can move the ball with his feet (Johnny's obviously better than Kellen here) May not always look pretty doing it, but just knows how to move the chains. Can make a big play when when he knows his team needs it.

And fortunately for us, he's a bigger, stronger version.

Comparing to Kellen Moore is high praise, and he will have to improve his deep passes to be rated with Kellen, but I do agree that in the mental game and the ability to buy time and pass on the run there are a lot of similarities.

  • I hope he has a better arm than Kellen Moore.

Nothing new on JS. He needs to work on his footwork and some times his throws wobble. He has much upside or is a very intriguing prospect. I am excited to see how much he improves over his senior season.

Nebraska commit Johnny Stanton working on passing skills at Elite 11 - CBSSports

Count Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) quarterback Johnny Stanton as one of those aware of the pressure at the Elite 11 but soaking it up and enjoying every minute of the competition and polishing up his passing skills.
