Jeezus people, get a grip

  • For about the 1000th time...

Bo's not doing good enough to be considered a success, and given Nebraska's standard for excellence, he could be called a failure to this point.

At the same time, Bo's not doing bad enough to get fired. If he continues to win 9-10 games a year and keep the program's nose clean, he's not going to get run off, despite the occasional meltdown. It's not happening and you might as well adapt.

After the debacle against Wiscy in the CCG, it was highly unlikely that Nebraska would sprint to the finish line in the recruiting derby. Those thinking we would were being unrealistic. Those using recent recruiting failures to pile on Bo are being equally naive because the repercussions that would stem from the CCG should have been apparent to anybody, whether you like Bo or hate him.

The recent tone of the board is being totally controlled by Nebraska's failure to retain a damn G.A., land a TE that would probably catch 25 passes next year, if that, or land a DT that in no way is guaranteed to be better than anyone we already have.

The ability of some folks to jump on the panic button or engage in totally redundant arguments is amazing.

Nebraska's performance in the bowl game likely has more to do with the immediate future of the program than anything else you could talk about right now and practically no one is discussing that. It's all the S.O.S.

It's Christmas and it's time to feel good again, if even for a few days, and for reasons that go way beyond Nebraska football. If you want to bitch around the clock, knock yourself out. We should all have better things to do.

    There's my rant...

While I agree with your post I feel like a lot of husker nation is getting used to the blowouts and bad news. We aren't getting upset about it anymore. We are numb. That is a reason for concern.

I know I'm use to it. Which is why i haven't given the panic threads much time. Although they are all starting to be a little redundant, both sides of the argument in fact.

I agree but there seems to be a few who think that a lack of bitching constitutes apathy or a lack of understanding. I find both of those positions insulting. Most of the time I ignore those posts and move on but sometimes (mk, hw, lando) it's just too much. I came to this site because, at that time, there wasn't too many people pushing agendas. It was mostly a group of folks who wanted to talk football and read enjoyable posts. Now there is a very vocal group that is so blinded by their needs that they seem to be undermining the program just to get at the head coach. The argument that MK's post has no bearing on recruiting is transparent and if he honestly believes that then I have no idea what to say to him. Parents, team members, coaches and recruits all read these boards. We have evidence of that. Do people really think that the constant barrage of negativity has nothing to do with the lack of confidence in the program? If you do you are incredibly naive.

I'm going to share something now that is not intended to be anything other than an example. I've been in the Army for 8 years. I'm an EOD tech (bomb squad) that has only been in special mission units. In order to get there you have to go through selections and be interviewed by psychologists. I can tell you that as someone who has been assessed and been the assessor the one major thing I look at is being a team player. Do you bitch about things that are beyond your control? Do you support the people around you? Especially when they fail? Because we all fail. The difference is how we respond to failure. Keep moving forward. Be honest with yourself about your failings and make an effort to get better. I've learned a hell of lot more from my failings than any successes I've had. I see that resiliency in Bo and our Huskers.

People can laugh at this post if they want or down vote if it makes them feel better but my feeling is that there are a great deal of Husker fans who would agree with me. I've said before that I want this team to perform well. I don't want them to perform well because it adds value to me when I walk around in my Husker gear. I want them to achieve so they can experience the sum of all their successes and failures. I want them to succeed so they can spend the rest of their lives teaching others the lessons that they learned about hard work, faith, and family. Spending time overseas and coming home is hard because of the behavior of Americans in my eyes. I'd feel a great deal better about my country if I came home and witnessed true leadership. I mean that at the family level to the community and all the way up the chain to the national level. If you want to stomp your feet and scream about your needs I just don't have time for you. If you want to be part of a solution, whether that be by volunteering to help youth and high school athletics or just being positive then you have my full support. I'll do what I can for you and if you happen to be in Colorado Springs shoot me a msg and I'll come help out.

Sorry for the long winded post everyone but I needed to get that off my chest. One last thought too; If you cannot support the Huskers in a positive way that helps the program then why bother with them?

  • Big Lou thank you for your service to our Country.

I am in the middle as I think it is healthy to discuss shortcomings in the Nebraska program. That is what these message boards are all about. There have been a couple of rants however this board is pretty positive. If you would have told me that we would give up 500+ rushing yards in the CCG to Wiscy, a 5 loss team, and then strike out on a number of critical recruits I would have guessed that this or any other board would have been in a complete meltdown. I am just not seeing it.

Certainly we can all come on here and talk about the positives of the program all we want however some of us invest thousands of dollars into the program and well we get a wee bit frustrated when there are things that could easily be run much better or fixed and aren't even addressed.

It is what it is with what we have at Nebraska currently. We are all hoping for some good recruiting news as we still have almost ten slots to fill with around six weeks to go in the recruiting cycle and then an extremely tough draw in our bowl game. Let's hope for a strong close to this recruiting cycle and then a competitive bowl game.

It's good to be the King.

Thanks for the reply TA and I agree with what you're saying for the most part. I would only add that there is a time and a manner in which to discuss deficiencies. I'm think about writing up a "lesson's learned" post after signing day but right now I think we need to keep a lid on things.

    Big Lou,

Thank you for your service and your grasp of the entitlement sickness that has cloaked our society ...what can you do for me, and when--a societal psychosis that defines good, honest dedicated people as coming up short by not meeting every expectation for those that see personal entitlement as the norm in life for their own self fulfillment.

You are so correct. We all fail. To skewer another for failure short of great expectations is so foreign to me that I fail to hold that philosophy as credible.

What is important is your service and mentorship to others, as this is the tie that must bind us all together as the end game, for without that we eschew individual responsibility, humility, humor and faith in one another as our common commitment.

Thank you for reminding us of our duty to each other to build a stronger forum, fan base and program. Best wishes for Christmas and time with your family.
