Is Nebraska being overlooked?

  • Humble Warrior said...

No. We have to prove we belong in discussions about contenders. Until we do, we are right were we should be. We need a chip on our shoulders anyway. You have to earn it. We win, we will get discussed plenty.

As I said, originally, we are being overlooked. I'm not saying, and have never said, we should be the division favorite.

Far from it. Michigan earned that appellation for their play last season, and MSU probably deserves to be seen as the top contender. However, I think MSU is being overvalued, based on their last two seasons. The problem with that is that they lose so much on offense, I can't imagine how they'll be able to repeat that success this year.

Spartan fans can talk about how their Junior QB is as good as Cousins - really? - or that their WRs and TEs are just as good, but until they show it, the questions are valid.

Just as questions about Nebraska's defense are valid until they show up.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

A 9-4 year again may be a pain for you guys, but given the schedule, would still be pretty solid. I don't see Nebraska as heads and tails above MSU, Michigan, tOSU or Wisconsin . . . but none of those games are definite Ls for the Huskers either.

Big 10 title this year is really more of a "first amongst equals". I think those 4 schools above + Nebraska are all "9-3" quality teams this year. I don't think a single one is elite nationally. The Big 10 champ will likely be 10-2, with probably a fluke bounce or two making the difference in the season.

I think you can throw a blanket over Michigan, MSU, and Nebraska. they are comparable teams, and schedule may make the difference between them.

Wisconsin is going to be down considerably this season. Losing the entire offensive staff, as well as more than half your starting offense is a huge challenge. Add the loss of half your starting defense and UW is at least a year away from being as good as they were the last two years.

Nobody really knows what to expect out of OSU. They have lots of talent and Meyer is a terrific coach, but will it take him a year to put things together or will they make the same sort of bounce Michigan made last year?

I'm fairly certain whichever team emerges from the Legends will win the CCG and get to the Rose Bowl. I'm just not sure which it's going to be.

I like that we get both Wisky and Michigan in Lincoln this year.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

It's ok; you don't see how MSU will replace Cousins and Co., then I don't see how Nebraska will replace Crick, David and Dennard. Your D should take a step back from last year.

My biggest complaint about your posts regarding MSU is that you assume that there's no way the next guys in line for MSU could possibly perform well . . . but when it comes to new Nebraska starters, you just assume they'll be as good, or better, than the guys they replace.

Fact is, Nebraska loses several stars and the MSU - Nebraska game is @MSU this year. I don't see how either group can say with confidence that their respective team will win that game, this far out.

One final point: Gholston doesn't have Worthy to play off of, you're absolutely right. At the same time, he lines up at the 5-tech, and Worthy's replacement at the 3-tech. If Gholston is drawing the OT and maybe a TE, then that gives the 3-tech a one-on-one match-up with the OG in the B-gap. That's not a bad thing.

It could very well be that Gholston's stats take a hit, but that the productivity of the DL doesn't change much; Gholston draws the double teams instead of the interior DL, which opens things up for the big boys inside.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Then go back and repost where I said they should be favored, you pimple.

    I'll wait.

No? can't find it? That's because I never said it, jerk-off. What I did say was, "In a word, yes! BTN pundits have ceded the Legends to Michigan, and the Leaders to Wisconsin. Michigan based on what's returning this season. Wisconsin apparently based on what's not returning. They've even ceded that MSU will be Michigan's main opposition.

    Nebraska is an afterthought."

In a later post I said this, "Actually, MSU does not have as much returning as they had last year, unless the Freshman QB and three career back-up receivers can easily replace a graduated three-year starter and their three best receivers, all of whom were Seniors, not to mention both of their TEs. Oh, and Gholston won't have Jerel Worthy next to him either. Huskers will beat MSU about as badly as they did last year."

I will stand by those statements, and defy you to show where I've split any f****g hairs.

It looks to me as if I've actually said the same thing, just restated.

It might help you if you actually bothered to read the entire thread instead of throwing in your worthless two cents.

Nebraska has a lot more questions than MSU.

MSU question is QB and Wide recievers.

Our Questions include, D backs, D line, Linebackers, Quarterback, O line, wide receivers. Looks like we have many more questions.
    We are not overlooked.

    I agree Lando.

Even though I don't fear MSU. But the point is we are not being overlooked, and I agree. We have to prove ourselves, and sometimes that's better. Bo and Co. have a lot to prove yet. Whether they can come together and put a complete product on the field remains to be seen.

Of course we're being overlooked. The B1G media doesn't consider Nebraska a contender this year, after overhyping us last year. They don't want to have egg all over their faces again, so they're ignoring the Huskers.

It's fine. Gives the team something to prove.

Three WRs, a QB, and a TE. Your entire receiving corp.

NU has one WR to replace and a couple of OL. We actually do have four returning starters , but only three will start.

Three players on D to replace. Same as MSU.

No, NU does not have more questions than MSU.

Yes, we're overlooked. Nebraska is as talented and as experienced as MSU, and close to UM. We have the capabilities to win the division, no matter that you don't think so. Which means we're being overlooked.

Hmm---the list of NU questions included:

"Our Questions include, D backs, D line, Linebackers, Quarterback, O line, wide receivers. Looks like we have many more questions."

I don't see any mistakes here. Let's see--if you figure that a football team's sections are:

Quarterback, Running Back, O-line ,Tight End, Wide Receivers

    D-line Linebackers Def-backs

    Kickers

That's 7 out of 9 sections where Nebr has questions. Lando got it right.
