  • He's a great writer when he writes like this... sticking to the facts and statistics. Too often he lets his emotions about the program influence his writing in a negative way and he skews statistics to fit what he says. this is a solid article though.

Dirk is a very good writer and this was a great article. Bo has not had his best moments when interacting with him at post game PCs. No doubt some friction there and Dirk has at times been prickly in his reporting/writing. That said Bo has to take significant responsibilty for the problem that is now hopefully is in the rear view mirror.

I've always thought this about Dirk even pre-Bo/Martinez gate. He's a young writer, he'll get better. But he needs to learn how to be a journalist during the season. He's good in the off-season but writes more like a fan during the season. you'll see that he'll come out with an article over emphasizing a win or a loss. Lets his emotions get the best of him.

Welcome to modern journalism, it's about hits not content.

true, i guess. In my opinion. that's not journalism.

  • I have always liked Dirk. Except when he should have called out Bo and didn't. I wont go into that in this thread. One of Bo's biggest recruiting failure is the 500 hundred mile radius. 100 guys in the top 250 and he only signed 5. Lets be real, Bubba was never coming here, and 1 left football. So that equals 4.But to blame recruiting about not winning a Big Ten title is also false. We have out recruited Wisky every year, but they have 3 Big Ten championships. While we have none.

Mine either, but it's all about getting readers any more. I'm perfectly okay with fact based opinion, but so much of reporting is just about trying to start a debate.

  • and an interesting rebuttle

The 500 Mile Radius: An Even Greater Obstacle for Nebraska Football Recruiting - Corn Nation

Look at that 500 mile radius around Lincoln, and compare it to what other schools can target within 500 miles of their campus, its obvious that the 500 mile radius is actually a bigger disadvantage for Nebraska football.

  • It is a dumb rebuttal. We know we have to recruit Nationally. But when you have 20 prospects in a 500 mile radius, and kids are going 500 miles for school, you have to do a better job at landing those kids. 5 out of 100 is not good enough.

actually the point of the article was that the competition for those 500 mile radius prospects is just as stiff as those in California and Florida.
