Interesting from the school that has had two major cheating scandals in the past.

Hi just a quick comment from a Buckeye.......

I don't understand why people classify OSU's "scandal" as cheating. It was for money and tattoos.........nothing was gained on the field..........I understand it was a grimy thing to do, and is very thuggish......but how and why do people consider this cheating??? If you remember, the NCAA stated the players could play in the Bowl against Arky.

Also, we think of anything we can to make fun of the team up north.......I'm sure Braska does their thing

Well, history is a tough thing to eradicate...just looking back...just sayin'.

Most CFB fans thought there was a lot of 'under the table' shenanigans that occurred regarding the involved players to be allowed to participate in the bowl game. Which, in retrospect, would appear to be the case.

Then, we read about 46 secondary violations, and we think blah...we've seen and heard it all before. OTOH, if this were Nebraska, it would be non-stop news, huge vilification of the program would ensue, and heads would be called for until justice was meted out. With OSU, it's just another ho-hum day.

Therein lies the 'double standard' that we all see and comprehend.

Nothing against you, it's just what we observe.

I would have no problem if some of the players majored in NFL; football is their chosen profession.

If they allow Creative Writing majors, and Acting majors, why not Athletics?

An NFL playing career can last, for most players, about five years. That's pretty much the average.

Football is an extra-curricular activity, however there are classes for people interested in a sports career, basically the management and development of sports teams, front office, on-field management, etc.

There are also classes for students who plan to go into coaching.

Football is simply not a career field. Nor is any other sports playing activity, considering the extremely limited number of players that ever, EVER, get to play professionally in any sport.

As to writers and actors, I can work professionally as an actor until my dying day, as long as there are available roles, and there are nearly unlimited opportunities for a Theatre major. A writer can also write until he drops. How successful he is is dependent on how well he writes. These are both lifetime careers. Playing football is not a lifetime career, usually.

The definition of cheating is to "violate rules or regulations". It is against NCAA regulations to trade memorabilia for cash or benefits that is not available to normal students. By the very definition Ohio St. players cheated.

Now, if you want to argue if OSU players received a competitive advantage you might gain some traction there. But, I would argue that OSU players did gain a competitive advantage. They knew that if they won the Michigan game they could take the memorabilia from that game and turn it into something they wanted, tattoos.

Because if a school gets a reputation for letting a lot of things slide (like free tattoos and things like that), recruits are going to look at that school with more favor because they know they will get away with a lot of stuff.

Would you rather go to a school that is very strict on a student athlete or a school that lets you do whatever the heck you want to do with very little consequences?

Up vote for Blue and furthermore, I'm getting really tired of the gray area that so much of our country likes to live in. If you screw up just take your lumps. I can live with an admission of guilt and taking steps to make it right but when someone says "well it wasn't that bad" and essentially appeals to the imperfect nature of our world, well I start to get a little irritated by the irony.

Here's the deal...you don't have to be "rich" to experience a high quality of life. Actually the "journey" is the prize if you make it an adventure. If you spend most of your time making your goal to become rich, you may never have enough time to enjoy the journey.

I can't remember a host of crazy forays, and some I' cant post here--I'm too damn old now...j/k...still am ready to sub anytime Bo calls on me bashful...I digress, here's a few things that I've been able to "put in my adventure bucket" - point being, I've never have been rich; very happy, not rich.

When you graduate go travel parts of the world for a year. You may find yourself along the way.

Fly in to wilderness lakes to fish virgin waters in Northern Canada Party in Rhodes, downtown Athens...Greece in its prime, islands best. Scuba dive in gin clear water 200' deep off Cozumel. Snorkel with Humpback Whale Mother and baby off the Big Island/Hawaii. Make Key West like your backyard...play with the Offshore Power Boat Race crowd. Cruise Tahitian Islands on a Ship that can power off the engines and sail. Swim with dolphins off Kona, sharks off Bali. Dive the 'North Wall' off the Cayman Islands that drops to 6,000' Catch over 50 large mouth in a day, no one else on the water. Ski the Black Diamond US Ski Team Training Run at Copper Mtn. with 2' of fresh powder Party with Sammy Haggar at Cabo Wabo for his 55th Birthday Live in Cabo San Lucas. Skiff the 2nd largest bay in the world with migrating herds of Grey Whales surrounding the boat. Jump (parachute) twice, solo, over Roswell, NM (former) military airbase shown on UFO shows. Race Open Wheel Limited Indy Racers. Catch Striped Marlin, Wahoo, Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna - the same day. New Zealand was best, Kowloon/Hong Kong next. Live in Mexico and operate an Adventure business.

Adventure is the pathway to your explore your soul...

That's quite a list Zonie!! You're definitely having more fun than me but I have a plan to catch up!

Depends on the type of player and for what he's choosing a school.

I understand what you're saying here and ideally all kids would be that mature but at 17-18 life isn't always as focused for some kids and they may not see the harm in any of it because 'everybody's doing it'. In my opinion these coaches and administrators have an obligation to teach these kids about right and wrong not 'if you get caught'. This environment only perpetuates the idea of a gray area for everyone to operate in regardless of the second and third order effects of this behavior.

So it is a general studies major.

Any way you slice it, it's the same thing.

Is general studies a major blue?

If so, they aren't the same. Exploration isn't a major, you cannot graduate Ohio State with a degree in Exploration. It's for kids who don't know what they want to do and OSU has advisers, and other odds and ends to help the kid decide what major they actually want. Trust me this is my specialty I'm in my second-year exploring.

Whether or not you can graduate from it is not the point, it's just another name for general studies.

Exploration is not the same thing as undecided, undeclared is the same thing as undecided.

Exploration and general studies are just another name for a liberal arts degree anyways.

Sorry about that......don't let your corn pop (that was gay but made me laugh). Nebraska is a huge addition to this conference and we in Columbus love you and the team.....

I completely understand everyones point, and I'm not trying to minimize any violations by OSU, but secondary violations are just that.....its using tobacco on the sidelines, saying hi to someone you pass (I know it was probably planned) or using a name for a recruit visiting the campus when your not there on a video. Most of those violations are the entire sports department, not just football. I'm sure if you dig hard enough.........Nebraska self tattle tales on itself on as well. There is no university in the country that does not violate the rules.

OSU will always be under the radar and held to a higher standard only because they are a winning program, and winning programs make people hate them..........which leads to small stories getting blown out of proportion.

One can graduate with a degree from UM with degree in genral studies, correct?

The exploration program is only two years, after the two years of exploring what major the person wants he or she has to declare an actual major. It's for students who are UNDECIDED about which major the student wants. It's for all students not just liberal arts. I went into the exploration program thinking of business and engineering. I was undecided about which major to pursue. I'm not sure why you are trying to argue the point. Trust me blue it's not a major

The tattoos and selling of memorabilia don't bother me.

What bothers ME is the personal 'advisor' that Terrelle Pryor had throughout his college football career. Heck, dating back to his High School days.

The possible connection to the mafia with the e-mails and lawyers and all that is tough to overlook as well. Tressel wasn't exactly a saint at Youngstown State either, and there is known mafia ties in that little 'burg.

Terrelle Pryor is likely the most sought after recruit in college football over the last decade coming out of high school. He made a spectacle of himself by delaying his college choice to nearly a month and a half after signing day.

Along with Cam Newton at Auburn, there hasn't been a more polarizing figure regarding cheating in college football since Reggie Bush. And that came after the fact.

My biggest problem is that Ohio State was front and center in his recruitment and eventually went the whole 9 yards to secrure his commitment. Why would Ohio State risk their clean reputation for a kid surrounded by hype and possible future problems/sanctions unless they were truly involved in some uncleanliness themselves?

Sorry, but it just doesn't add up. Most people weren't born yesterday, and most can add 2 and 2 together to figure out that some kind of money exchanged hands between Terrelle Pryor and somebody other than a Tattoo Parlor guy during (or before) his career at Ohio State.

Very true..............Tressell missed the boat on that guy.............he could be the most hated person at OSU even with his record (I think somewhere around 34-9). He is the person (right next to Tressell) that brought shame to us. If Tress didn't win that NC in 2002, he would be right next to TP. Tress turned out to be one shady cat too..............to bad because he was huge in the community and charities throughout Central Ohio.

Not sure why you guys hate Terrelle Pryor. He was 1 of 5 that went to that tattoo parlor, yet the most hated one.

Personally, I think he just did what was best for himself and 'supposedly' his family.

He was an incredible talent and won a boat load of games for Ohio State.

Boom Herron was a part of that, right? Why is he still beloved amongst tOSU faithful? How about Devier Posey?

As for donating to charities and being involved in the community? The Gambino family contributed way more to their community than anything Saint Tressel could ever imagine.

QB sets the precedent for the team, he's the leader and needs to act like it. That's why. Like it or not QB is under the microscope on and off the field, he's the icon of the team. He failed them the most.
