  • See what a little Hope can do for a program?! Need to thank Danny and purdue for this one.

That is also the reason this is bigger get than Sandland to me, a real momentum boost for us, something Sandland won't provide if he waits until signing day. Wins and big time commits, that how snow balls are formed!

    Ya better NebrASKa somebody!!!

  • Bout time he let the cat out of the bag.

I hope everyone understands what a colossal upgrade this is from CLC. Not trying to demean Christian at all, but our defense is STARVING for speed off the edge. CLC wasn't going to bring that. This kid has something you can't teach, and you can't create in the weight room.

For that reason, in the Gregory v Sandland debate, I'll take Gregory. As good as Sandland may be (I'm still iffy on that, given his stats this season. I get he's being double-teamed, but if he can be taken out of a game plan that easily at JUCO, how dynamic is he really going to be on the FBS level?), a disruptive DE will upgrade our team much more than any TE could. I've said it before, but we could run our offense without even fielding a TE and still be pretty effective. Look at our offense now. Everyone raved about our TEs this season, and how tough it was going to be when they leave. They have a combined 25 catches for 300 yds and 4 TDs. That's 3 catches, 37 yds and .5 TDs per game. Not that irreplaceable imo. With our receivers and backs, that is not difficult to replace.

I totally agree with Gregory over Lacouture... and getting him 3 years makes up for it too seeing as Lacouture probably would be contributing until the final three years of his career anyway. Here's some Gregory highlights... kid is F-A-S-T off the edge and gets skinny in the middle before exploding to the quarterback. He can rush out of the 3 point and 2 point stance and he has really good hips for a guy his size (meaning he could get back in coverage if needed). He pursues plays to the edge and is a SURE tackler. I like him and am very excited to see what he brings to the table next season.

That being said, I'm still going to say push with Sandland. TEs bring so much more to the table than just catching balls. Kyler Reed opens things up for our receivers, Ben Cotton does a great job of seal blocking on run plays and both are great targets in the red zone (though we don't use them enough). I think you'll see a difference in the offense next year without them, but I do understand your point about our receivers and backs picking up slack. Our skill positions are so dang talented adding another weapon like Sandland would make our offense impossible to stop. So i'll still say "push."
