I don't always agree with dirk but to me Sipple is the one I can't stand.
The problem that many people have with dirk is that he is too critical. He may be at times but he has a job to do. Also he is a nu grad.
I bet his is sick of our mediocrity. I know I am.
I am sick of not bein relevant
No bcs games
No conference championships
No top 10 finishes
Only 1 top 15 finish
Blow out losses
Losing to any team that is good
3-17 vs teams that finished ranked.I know that was critical. Rant over. But recruiting looks ok to pretty good but not great. The one thing we mainly point to for the future is an easy schedule, not total belief in a high probabllity that we will actually hang with big boys.
When I look at Michigan and Osu they look like they are going up regardless of who they are playing. They are recruiting lights out.
I just want that same feeling for us. That we are legitimately moving up. To me it feels like cruise.IDWIW ●

This is just stupifying!!!!!!!!!
You are going to get all over Abdullah for 3 fumbles on plays from scrimmage, but just accept Turnover Martinez' lack of leadership in this area, and he handles the ball every play whereas Abdullah 25-30% of the time? The special teams situation needs a major overall in every area with real coaching - that will fix most of those fumbles IMO.
And yes, the turnover prone QB situation could change. We have a guy in Tommy Armstrong available, who has been in the system for awhile now, and who is better than Turnover by all accounts. Play TA and these turnovers presumptively take a precipitous drop in number.
11 INTs in 14 games is very acceptable, although about half of them are very preventable stupid throws where it was hard to understand what he thought he was seeing, and they come in clusters. It's the 10 fumbles that are usually the killer. He looked so much better early on like he was consciously trying to correct this. Then as of Ohio State (another big game collapse) he just went off a cliff for about 5 games. The numbers are staggering, but so are the bunches of turnovers together in big games, mostly just silly mistakes. People ask why we don't perform well as a team in big games? How discouraging is this trend to the rest of the players? Very. It was also about this time that the offense because less proficient and much less fast paced. There is probably a connection in that when he begins to struggle mentally with managing the offense his concentration on holding onto the ball isn't as intense because he is struggling trying to understand the check-downs or something.
These numbers are not new or mystifying as they are just added info to an ongoing problem. Fix it and we are an elite team most years. Turnover would have to be the greatest QB of all time by a large margin to overcome these numbers, and of course he isn't that by a long shot. Turnovers problems can be coached out of most players, and if not, they should sit. The fact that this problem has not been corrected for years is very troubling.

I'm saying we can't have two turnover prone guys in the backfield. We're going to have one in Martinez regardless. We can afford two. Armstrong won't be a serious option next year. Barring injury Armstrong won't play outside of mop up duty. But there is plenty of competition at RB for Abdullah.

As a few people have said this definitely isn't some sort of revelation. It is well laid out though.
I don't think Dirk was taking any cheap shots unless belaboring the obvious in a slow period for NU football is considered taking a shot.
It is absolutely agonizing that we had 35 TOs - 8 more then the next worst team in the top 25 (#24 rated Michigan) and more then 3 Xs the # of TOs K State had.
TO margin is, and has always been. the single most important statistic in terms of winning or losing games. Taylor is a fabulous playmaker and 1 of the most dangergous offensive threats in college football. I'm a big fan of his work ethic, poise under 4th quarter pressure and leadership in the tight games. However he takes away close to 1/2 of what he gives us with his TOs. Not helping is the fact that take aways on D are very average (23 for the season) which puts us just slightly better then 50% of D1 teams.
Next to impossible to become a top 10 team with those numbers in this vital area.
Having said the above; (and God forgive me hear for 'saying this out loud') next year we appear to have a very easy schedule. Michigan away will likely be the only game where we won't be favored - and UCLA at home will be difficult. The rest - well I am uncomfortable saying this - but we should win. Many of them comfortably.
Forcing 1 or 2 more TOs then we give up in those 2 (UCLA/UM) games and, the way I see it, our chances of going in to the B1G CCG undefeated are pretty high.

I'm sorry, I meant Husker journalists... he's a very good writer when he sticks to actual information. (like this article) He often lets his emotion concerning NU guide his writing and his interpretation of facts. Much like Sipple but in the other direction. Sam McKewon is the best print writer right now.
Of course Schaefer and Bruntz take the cake online.
