    Several things:

    1) I thought the play would be ruled a touchdown after the review and was surprised it wasn't. 2) The call on the field weighs heavily. If the side judge had ruled it a touchdown live, that call would have stood as well. 3) There was still 7+ minutes left in the game and given Nebraska's propensity for late game dramatics, Nebraska had as good of a chance or better of winning the game regardless. It's not like the call occurred with 10 seconds left, like a rather infamous call 30 years ago.

Your saying that the PSU player had control of the football while the ball crossed the goal line? I didn't see that but I'm getting older and may need a new pair of glasses. ha ha ha ha

I do agree with the rest of your points.

I thought the kid had the nose of the football over the goal line while still in control.

I was flashing back to the Wisconsin/Michigan State game of last year when the replay official changed the ruling on the field when it was literally a matter of inches. It was a matter of inches here as well, but I do think he got to the goal line in possession.

The only thing I can think of is that when the kid was preparing to reach out for the goal, it appeared he may have lost a firm grip on the ball. This was before the ball hit our players's knee. Since the ball was loosely in his hands it came out rather easily, and since the play was ruled a fumble on the field, the replay official went the side judge's call.

As stated, if it had been ruled a TD the first go round I think that call would have stood too.

All in all, I think we were fortunate, but for PSU fans to be crying that a play with 7 minutes left in the game determined the outcome is incorrect, especially against this Nebraska team. I think we would have won regardless but we'll never know on that one.

Well said. And there is NO comparison in the stakes of this decision compared with 1982. In the play 30 years ago, it was a 4th down and 2, and the receiver, Mike McCloskey, had not 1 but BOTH feet out of bounds when he caught the pass that kept the Penn State drive alive. That play came in the dying moments of the 4th quarter, not halfway through. And the import was huge--a top 10 game that put Penn State over Nebraska when national championship voting came around at the end of the year.

  • We are better than you, Penn St. We will be for a long time. Get used to it.

    You are our new Colorado.

Two things about that replay. The ball is out of his hands when you pause it, and you realize that camera is at the 1 yard line not the goal line right?
