Draft Hypothesis

  • I doubt he'll fall this far, but does anyone else see Mike Shanahan's love affair with the Huskers continuing and using their 3rd round pick on Lavonte? Especially since they are a team that can tell you first hand how well an "undersized" linebacker can perform in the NFL. Lavonte David plays similarly to London Fletcher IMO... both have an absolute nose for the ball and motors that don't quit. Like I said, I don't think there is any chance he makes it out of the first two (or one) rounds undrafted, but just throwing this out there.

I doubt he falls to the third round... Dennard on the other hand could, and I think the Redskins might take a chance on him

  • Third round? Crick may fall that far, however, I sincerely doubt David will last more than 40 picks. I would think there is a VERY slight potential of Dennard being there, but he should be grabbed in the first 60.

  • Lavonte is going late 1st or early 2nd at the latest...no way he falls to the third round. but i honestly think the redskins will take Dennard

Like I said (twice), I don't think a talent like his will ever fall that far. I just like the comparison between David and Fletcher as well as the Redskins being an up and coming intrigue.

  • I've seen a couple Mock Drafts with hiring the mid to late first round. With that being said, I hope the Packers trade for the number one pick to get him. biggrin

  • As a Bears fan, I am truly surprised no one has mentioned DA Bears as a team with interest for David. Talk about a PERFECT replacement for Briggs. I really hope he finds his way onto a team that he fits with. Most likely weak-side LB on a cover 2 oriented team. With his talent can't see him making it out of the top 45. Possibly 1st round if the right team falls in love. I could easily see him going 1st pick 2nd round to the colts. But if he falls to 49, and the Bears don't pick him I will be more than upset.

  • I know the Packers sorta of fit into the area where people are saying his talent level puts him but i'm not to sure he fits the 3-4 scheme. One the biggest requirements in that scheme is to be strong enough to sched any block...Lavonte isn't really that. He's a weak side roamer.

Unfortunately, you are correct. He wouldn't fit in with Caper's D. We had Kampmen, one of the best rush DEs out there, and got moved to LB. Didn't work for him either. Tough D to fit in.

  • I believe the core of the 3-4 defense is based around plugging in freaks of nature like demarcus ware. Kampan isn't a freak. He's a technically sound professional. My dad is a HUGE packers fan growing up in Wisconsin so I am well in touch with the franchise. They need to take a risk and go after a freak. They aren't in the position to draft one at the top of the draft. To find "that guy" they may need to take a risk on a guy with some issues. Someone like Couples(although he probably won't make it that long) but i think you understand. It requires extrodinary athletes to make that defense work.

There is a lot of good front 7 talent in this draft, the Packers will get one of them. Coples wont make it to 28, I haven't seen any mocks that he makes it past 12, but there are a lot of guys that will be there.

McClellin from Boise, Upshaw, Mercilus, Still, Worthy, Perry, and Branch are all possibilities. Looking at CBSsports ratings 11 of their top 32 prospects are either a LB or DL, so there is plenty of talent. I just hope they are able to find the right guy that can get to the passer. The pass rush was just horrible last year, they have to address that and I'm sure Ted Thompson and crew have a plan they are some of the best in the business at finding talent in the draft.

  • David won't make it out of the 1st, but hopefully Dennard falls to the Boys in the 3rd and not to the NU Skins. The boys finally cut dead weight getting rid of Newman, should have been done years ago. We are in need of a corner.

  • I'm just praying the Dolphins don't do something incredibly stupid.
