Doc Sadler

  • He has to be done after this year doesn't he. This team is just terrible.

  • Unless some miracle run to finish the season happens, or unless we win the B1G Tournament, I have a feeling the final nails to the coffin were put in place this past week.

Tom would have a hard time explaining this one away to the boosters and fans. Gotta believe a short list has been constructed and is complete, or nearly complete, regarding the next guy to replace Doc.

I certainly hope Tom uses some outside sources to help in finding the right guy because there isn't a 'Nebraska' guy out there to come in and take the job.

  • I'll take it.

  • pray

Docs a nice guy. But it takes more than that to build a semi-competitive team at the BCS level. Better luck at your next stop Coach Sadler. I just can't watch this debacle anymore.

  • Nobody thinks that TO will give Doc the pass until the arena is in use (serious question)? Before this year i didn't really care who the b-ball coach was because when it comes to basketball i'm more of a Duke fan than the Huskers, but this year really has been a disgrace. They don't play competitive ball at all and thats not the way it should be with any team that has the word Nebraska on the jersey.

  • I thought they needed to keep him around last year, but it's pretty bad when a team based on defense can't play defense.

No way to defend what we've seen this year.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

  • If they keep Doc another year, they are willing to accept that we will never have a decent b-ball program. Mike Anderson got 3 years bonus pay as well. Also, does anyone know who dresses Doc? He looks absolutely terrible most of the time. Suits 2-3 sizes too big etc. At least look good while you're taking beating after beating.

I wonder if Doc hasn't known he was on his way out after this year. His mannerisms seem to be subdued and different, or maybe that's just my view. But one would have to think that T.O. has put some feelers out. It it Strickland that just surfaced? Who knows maybe Tom is gonna pull another Erstad move, except with the MBB team this time.

I would give Tom some sound advice this time. Quit giving these average coaches enormous buyouts. You paint yourself into a corner. If they want a long contract, demand results before they get that raise and or extension. Such a novel idea.

  • Please go out and get Shaka Smart... he will bring exciting basketball to watch if nothing else.

Another name being thrown around is John Groce, who is the Ohio Univeristy head coach. He was Thad matta's right hand man and is knows as a great recruiter.

    ThrowinBonez

  • I too believe this should be Doc's last year... I was in his defense for two years but this season made it painfully obvious that he does not have what it takes to get this team to the Tourney. And the fact that we are actually investing in basketball now might be enough to get a great coach to come and take a shot at making it big here. Don't fool yourselves though Nebraska basketball is still not a "destination" job so we'll have to go for a guy that is young and up and coming. Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens are two that I would like to look at but we'd have to open up the pocket books in a big way.

All of that being said, I actually think TO gives Doc another year. I don't want him to but I think he does this time under the excuse of playing in a new conference.

IDK, it seems as if T.O. has put together a package for Doc, added a fabulous practice facility, and even better arena forthcoming more as a testament to the next coach that he/NU is serious???

  • Now that we are in the big 10 and on TV we have to give him time to get it all together.. Doc's a good coach and we are just NOW getting all this TV time for people (Players) to see us and our facities..

Give him some time and then drop it like it's hot on him after another 2 years and we havent improved.

If you cant say something nice, shut your damn mouth!! GBR

I've been a huge Doc supporter, but I just can't agree with this.

Look at our roster and what's coming back next year, it's downright embarrassing. Doc is a great guy and I wish him nothing but success in the future, but that future isn't at UNL. He's had ample time to improve this program and it's gone nothing but downhill and next year could be the worst year for bball in a LONG time and that's saying something.

    This

Couldn't have said it better! Doc is a great man just not the right guy for this Job.

Adams, this isn't the old days of college athletics. You're not gonna see guys get 10 years to start producing. When you're AD is sinking big money into the program, he needs results. Doc has had his shot. I don't know who would make a great replacement for him but they couldn't really do much worse. I'm sure TO has a few guys in mind.

with all the TV and New facilites and having people now see us on TV has put more WIN NOW on the program is what you are saying?

I understand that.. But isnt there more? What and why hasnt Doc done well.. He offered to play Duke and they declined because we were based on Defense and we had everything to gain and they had everything to lose if we beat them. What went wrong here with our program?

  • If the basketball team showed any promise at all, I think Doc would get another year, however it isn't. We don't have good players, they don't give 100% effort 100% of the time, there is no exciting offense or tough defense. We don't have anything to hang our hat on as a team, and this far into Doc's career that isn't acceptable.

Which means we need to make the most of the schedule we do get. Go to the tourney and the Dukes and North Carolinas of the hoops world can't avoid you. Trust me Adams, I've stuck up for Doc in the past. Its just time to try someone else. Nebraska plays some of the worst basketball to watch in the country. And we're constantly playing to not get blown out. Is that really the style of basketball a BCS school should be playing? And why would Doc want any part of Duke anyway? He can't handle Northwestern or Minnesota.
