Do You Think Nebraska Could Support a "Big 4" Sports Team

Since its the offseason and nothing is going on I'm stealing this topic from our friends at Voice Of The Hawkeyes board
Granted i know itll never happen but just curious if you guys think our state (Omaha) could support a NFL,MLB, NBA or NHL team or if you would even want one because you like Nebraska athletics outside of some Creighton fans

It depends on how you define "support". Filling the stands? Yeah, I think so. But I don't think Nebraska has the other factors owners/leagues are looking for.

Yes I think we definitely could as far as ticket sales go. Quite honestly though I don't know if there is more to it than that, like apparrell sales etc that perhaps we do not have the ability to support due to population. I know we would sell out and then some though.

NFL and MLB probably not. Stadiums are huge and payrolls are too. Don't think we have the population base to support those. Smaller venue sports like NBA or NHL we probably could support.

I think KC is the smarter market for either of those. I'd love to have a KC basketball team.

Actually the Oklahoma City MSA is larger than New Orleans and Salt Lake City MSAs. Omaha/Council Bluffs MSA is #58, tv market #76 I believe. Despite the criticism of Omaha being an 'event town', I think most seats would get filled, but that's only a small part of the equation, as others have stated.

Definitely not an MLB squad. Season is too long, and if that team were horrible, you better believe people would stay away.
NHL tickets are sneaky expensive too.
I could see an NBA team. Would be interested to see how an NFL team would compete with Nebraska.

I will say that of the Big 4, I'd much rather have an MLB team than anything.
Pro football games are prohibitively expensive, I don't really follow pro hockey, pro basketball games are fun, but sensory overload.

I think an NBA team would work. The key to ticket sales would be to get people to a game at least once. This is just from my experience, but my dad hated the NBA until we were in LA and we went to a Clippers game and he had so much fun at that game he actually watches games on tv and somewhat follows the league. If Omaha can sell out Creighton games, I don't see why an NBA team wouldn't be supported. It will never happen, but it would be awesome.
Get Mr Buffett on the phone, maybe he wants to bring a team to Omaha.

You would think that with as many Fortune 500 companies as there are in Omaha, you could find somebody sitting on a little cash to get things started.

The answer is yes. It could easily support a basketball or baseball team. Football im not sure on. Same with hockey.
