Apparently Trev Alberts is running the IOC now
Goal in life is to save America from Obamacare
terrible decision imo.
Wow...I guess they needed more room for synchronized swimming, the shoe kick, and the ever-challenging three-legged race...
This is insane.
Yea I can't believe it either.
Have they recently added events?
Adding golf in 2016
I think it's crazy that golf is a Olympic sport but baseball and wrestling isn't
Golf and Rugby Sevens come on in 2016.
2008 was the last year for softball and baseball; they were not replaced in 2012. In 2016, we get rugby and golf.
This is a freakin' joke. We get stuck watching trampoline (gymnastics on a bouncier floor) and the modern pentathlon, a strange combination of equestrain, shooting, fencing, swimming, and running. Check that, nobody has ever viewed the modern pentatholon on tv.
Wrestling is a sport that all nations can compete in - it requires no expensive equipment or facilities, and is not an elitest sport such as sailing, polo, or equestrain.
I don't know of the chances of getting this overturned, but really hope it happens.

This is stupid. Some powerful imagery came from wrestling.

Rugby Sevens I can get behind. Golf doesn't strike me as being completely necessary.
This is insane wrestling is like the closest thing to events of the original Roman Olympics. the Olympics are dieing
This doesn't make much sense to me either. Olympic wrestling has brought us some great moments like Jordan Burroughs winning a gold in 2012 or Rulon Gardner upset of the "unbeatable" Russian Aleksandr Karelin in 2000. To be dropped for sports like golf, wakeboarding or wush (whatever that is) is ridiculous.
Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning gives a statement:
“The wrestling community is shocked and disappointed by the IOC’s recommendation to eliminate wrestling from the 2020 Olympic Games. The sport of wrestling has a great history in the Olympics dating back to the inaugural Games in Athens in 1896.
“Removing wrestling from the Olympics would have a far-reaching impact on our sport. It not only greatly affects our current Olympic athletes and future Olympians, but it would also damage the sport at the collegiate, high school and youth levels. Wrestling is the sixth-most popular boys’ high school sport in the United States with more than 275,000 participants, and at the collegiate level we have sold out the NCAA Championships the past four years, so the interest and passion for the sport is widespread. Hopefully, the IOC will take into account the impact of this decision on the American and international wrestling communities, and re-consider when they meet in May.”
apparently wrestling has the opportunity to get back into the games. There is one open spot and 7 sports are going to try to get in that spot.
"There is a chance that the Olympic committee can reverse that decision in May, when it considers a 26th sport to add to the 2020 Games. A final decision will be made in September, but wrestling’s Olympic future seems doubtful, said veteran observers of the Games.
In recent years the I.O.C. has expressed concern about the size of the Summer Games and wanted to cap the number of athletes at about 10,500. It has also said it wants to enhance its modernity by drawing younger viewers among the international television audience. On Tuesday the Olympic committee said in a statement that it wanted to ensure that it remained “relevant to sports fans of all generations.”"
heres a small excerpt from NY Times article.
The International Olympic Committee drew wide criticism with its plan to eliminate one of the most ancient and traditional Olympic sports from the Summer Games.
