I wouldn't mind seeing Rodreguez, i know he only has one year. Maybe he could add a little depth. He is pretty athletic and strong. Any other thoughts?
Ankrah will likely play inside this year
I've been hearing this, and this post really makes me believe it will happen.
I'm haven't heard anything definitive on this but what do you guys think Ankrah could weigh if he wanted to add mass and play indside?
Think he could make it up to 285?
Teein' Off on Links
I think he has the frame to do so. 15 at least extra pounds, at least, certainly isn't out of the question.

I don't think he's too far from that now actually. He looks big enough to play DT.
I might be the only one, but Ankrah does not excite me at DT.
I wouldn't be as opposed to the as I would have been earlier on. I think it could work. I'd rather have experience in the middle. Put Gregory and Moss and Valentine on the ends and let them go hard.

No offense SF, but he doesn't excite me at DE.
I don't see adding weight to his frame would be a problem.
The problem I see is a guy that has played DE all throughout HS and now college life for the past 6 to 7 years and then ask him to move inside for what should be his most productive year as a Husker at DE.
Also, he is our ONLY returning starter in our front 7 and did play well in the last half of last season.
If you move Ankrah to DT, then you also have to solve the problem of your SDE opposite of Gregory. A player who we are all chalking up as a for sure starter next year from the JUCO ranks that hasn't played a down of AQ level football.
Even if you solve one problem, you create another.
If it was me?
VV as a NT, and run a legit 3-4. You can still fit Ankrah and some others in 4 or even 5 man lineman fronts if you want. Behind that you fit your 20-some LBs into some spots and get after people off the edge and with some speed.
But that is just me. And I don't know anything.
I might be the 2nd one, but Ankrah does not excite me at DT.
"Even if you solve one problem, you create another"
This is where we are right now. It will be the staffs job to figure out how to get the most talent on the field.
Things I know:
VV must have an impact and become a starter.
Curry must also become a contributor and be able to play valuable minutes.
Gregory will be an immediate impact.
We need Moss or Valentine to step up amd contribute, regardless of where Ankrah is playing next season.
McMullen needs to factor in somewhere as well.
Ankrah doesn't excite me inside. But he's big body and can gain the weight easily. This will be different than forcing Meredith inside.
Ankrah has also struggled off the edge and making plays in space.
While we will be real young on the edges...we should be more athletic.
Especially with Rome leaving...we are wet toilet paper thin at the most important position on the field outside of QB. We could use Ankrah there
I agree with nearly 99.9% of what you post nustudent, but I have to disagree on this one.
We have 1 single starter returning in our front 7 and you want him to put on weight to play a position he has never played for at least 7 years as a 5th Senior?
Not only weight, but 20 to 30 pounds of weight?
I say it is time for Kaz to earn his paycheck. Get VV and Curry up to speed and get some other youngins to contribute.
The 3-4 is coming. Don't deny it.
Once again agree. Ankrah doesn't excite me at DE for the reasons you've mentioned. He just seems to have cement in his cleats, for a DE. I'm not sure how he'll work out at DT, but its worth a shot for depth purposes. Think we'll have to ride or die with youth at DE.
It won't need to be 20-30 lbs. It needs to be 10-15.
I seriously doubt the 3-4 is coming.
We simply aren't recruiting the pieces for it outside of Valentine. Do I think we can see different looks and fronts? Absolutely.
Just don't see it full time.
It's not ideal to move Ankrah inside but we need the body there.
Are we recruiting to a 4-3? One would be led to believe that any school recruiting to a 4-3 would be recruiting 2 to 3 guys at DT every year.
What is our 2 deep at DT for next year? A couple of RS Fr and....
If we move Ankrah inside, what is our DE 2 deep next year? Gregory and............
We have an upcoming strength. It is our LBs. If we are going young, why not get your most athletic players on the field?
As opposed to putting guys out of position and needing to gain weight in their 5th year in the program, why not build your younger guys into a newer and better system when you have the chance?
Again. I don't know anything. Just throwing some stuff out there. IF we can't land 4-3 DTs like everybody else in the country wants, maybe we would have better success getting 3-4 wide bodies?
Alot hard for us to get the necessary bodies to play along the 3-man front than it is a 4-man
We will be real young on the edges without Ankrah, but you have to choise your posion. WOuld you rather be young and inexperienced inside or out. I'll go out.
Just because we appear to have a number of young talented LBs doesn't mean they are cut out for the 3-4. A few of our young LBs wouldn't translate well in that defense
It's not as easy as shifting the defense because of numbers. What we ask the players to do in that defense has to be considered as well. We don't have the bodies right now to run a 3-4 consistently
I hear you, but he LOOKS like one, and kind of runs like one, too...
Ankrah's the only one I can think of... I think he would do better than Cam on the inside.
I don't think he will move inside for good, but probably on passing downs when we run our smaller D front. I don't know what to do with him, drop some weight to get faster, or at weight to move inside. He isn't quick enough to play outside, but moving him his Sr year doesn't sound like a good idea. We will know soon enough, if he's moving then he will be playing there in the spring game.
Oops. I mean Moss and McMullen. Nice catch.
We don't have the bodies right now to run a 3-4 consistently
And we had the bodies to run a 4-3 'consistently' last year? We had 5 Seniors in our front 7 and got embarrassed by anybody with a pulse offensively last year.
All-time record breaking numbers with a 4-3 and 5 5th year Seniors in the rotation. Yes. Lets do that again, shall we?
If it didn't work the first or second time, keep doing what you are doing. Eventually things will work out.
Alot closer to being able to run the 4-3 effectively than the 3-4
