UCLA will fire head coach Ben Howland on Sunday, multiple sources tells me.
saw this on twitter
Goal in life is to make the Huskers Illustrated Hall Of Fame
Seen it coming. Thought he would work out there after the final four appearances.
Jamie Dixon just reupped with Pittsburgh through 2023. USC is apparently now looking at Pastner at Memphis.
As much as I don't want him to leave Memphis, I'd like that pick up. Pastner has connections to the Pac 12 and will clean up in WC recruiting,
Pastner is as dirty as they come as far as a recruiter. He gets great talent but is a mediocre coach.

It's good to be the King.
UCLA put out a statement last night, and it might just be semantics, but they said Howland hasn't been fired.
Ben Howland has been fired by UCLA after 10 seasons. He went to 3 Final Fours during his tenure in Westwood.
Should have added a "yet" on that one, apparently.
Thats a job if they went after Shaka I could easily see him leaving VCU for
Shaka could very well take that job but I'm not so sure he will. Just a gut feeling. Doesn't seem like a ucla type of guy.
The way many mid-majors are paying these days and the relative lack of pressure to win probably means it will be harder to fill this job than many think.
Look at guys like Few at Gonzaga, Stevens at Butler, Smart, etc. They've had chances to leave and haven't. Just sayin.
Your team. All the time.
Plus Smart's recruiting connections are on the East Coast.
Though I'm sure he could quickly get established on the West Coast.
Yes. He's also more of a blue collar guy as well. Save Howland as he's from CA.

Who do you guys think they end up with?
Mark Gottfried from NC St who I think
id think Greg Marshall would do good there
I'll be curious to see who Minnesota thinks it can get. You don't run Tubby Smith if you don't think you can pull in a name. Kind of wonder if that's an issue of a program thinking it's more of a destination than it actually is.
I've seen similar names mentioned for both openings, and I don't know. Just doesn't seem to equate for me.
Flip Saunders has been linked to the Minnesota opening ive read
That would be a good hire for them. He's around the program, he's an alum, and would charge up that base a little.
Just saw too that reports have surfaced that Pastner has extended his contract at Memphis.
It's true about Pastner and after some thought I'd stay at Memphis if I were him. Great local talent, easy road to NCAAs and he'll get a better job offer than what's available, ucla included.
What job is Pastner gonna get looked at that's a historic blue-blood of CBB ?
Kansas, Kentucky. Duke, North Carolina & Indiana, aren't opening up anytime soon and let's not kid ourselves Pastner doesn't even belong in the conversation for the UCLA job.
Even if you go to the next level in terms of historic giants, Louisville & Ohio State, neither are opening up anytime soon. Pastner would wet himself and look like a damn fool if he got a chance but turned down UCLA, that's a destination job like KU, UNC, Duke, UK, IU.
Bamboo, or else...
My main reasoning for this is that Memphis has as much if not more support in facilities and fan support. Memphis has enough local talent and can get enough nationally to compete in March, just as much as ucla. Yes, they have that Wooden history but let's not kid ourselves, its not the job it used to be. Lastly, ucla isn't in the best of financial situations the other schools you mentioned. So I think he's hardly foolish if he turned down that job. As for the amount of time it takes for a job to open, its of little significance as he's only 35 years old. Just because its a 'blue-blood', particularly in Basketball, doesn't make it a given.
