Tonight was great. I had Founders Old Curmudgeon on tap, Abt 12 on tap (!!!), Deschutes Black Butte Porter on tap, and Belhaven Scottish Ale on tap. OK, in retrospect I should have listed the beers and said "all on tap", but I'm drunk (no worries, I walked home). All were great. I'll give some details later, but I'd rank Abt 12, Deschutes, Founders, then Belhaven. I hope you are all adequately jealous.
It's not nice to tease, Mike

Well I'm drinking SUCKS!
Teein' Off on Links
I've been looking to drink a Deutsches. Mad that I haven't yet. Apparently they make a lot of great beers.
Thank you for helping my Friday get better
OK, here are my thoughts:
ST. BERNARDUS ABT 12 - This is a top 5 for me, but I'd never had it on tap. If you get the opportunity, don't pass it up. It was less carbonated than the bottled versions I've had, and much thicker. Everything I loved about the beer was amplified -- the depth of flavor and subtle kick from its not-negligible alcohol content. I'm going to be brave here and give this one a .
DESCHUTES BLACK BUTTE PORTER - This one was great, and I'd highly recommend giving it some time to warm up, because it just got better with time. Nice head that stuck to the side of the glass. Overriding smell was coming from the dark roasted malts. Some hints of coffee in the taste. I am an inexperienced beer drinker in general, and I have even less experience with porters, so I don't know what the norm is on this style. However, it was a lot drier (don't know if wine lingo is acceptable/applies to beer) than I expected, which was a nice change up. While the Abt 12 initially hits you over the head, this brew is more mellow off the bat, but still has some nice, subtle flavor variety. I can't think of a comparable beer that I've had that I enjoyed more, so i'm giving this one +.8.
FOUNDERS OLD CURMUDGEON ALE - It went down very easy. The most notable flavor, for me, was a sweet, butterscotch taste. What was most impressive, though, was that the beer wasn't overwhelmed by the flavor. When I first got a taste of the butterscotch, I thought, "great, now I'm stuck drinking a candybar for the next 20 minutes." However, the flavor comes, it goes, it's never overwhelming, and it gets out of the way right when you want it to. While this isn't the type of flavor I normally like in my beer, Founders did a phenomenal job. It's nowhere near a top-5 beer for me, but I'd definitely get this one again if I were looking for a change-up. .
BELHAVEN SCOTTISH ALE - Admittedly, this was the last beer I had, so, naturally, I remember it pretty poorly. What I enjoyed about it was a certain smokiness that I hadn't found that night. However, it was a bit of a one-trick pony (compared to the other beers I'd consumed). Solid, different, but not something that would ever make my regular rotation. Still worth a try if Scottish Ales are your thing. I give it +.5.

Here's a fun read.
Beer is often considered a mans drink (less so now, but still to some degree.) Typically, women have historically ordered wine and men ordered beer.
Hop on, hold tight, and enjoy the ride-Odell IPA. Game day B$&$&es
Well how did everyone like the spring game. I shared the game with some Ivan the Great Imperial Russian Stout. Went down to the Hy Vee and all my favorites were sold out...
