Hey BYC. My #3 son just received his drivers lic. about 30 minutes ago. He's out by himself driving around. SHOULD I WORRY???????????
Tremendously. By himself isn't as bad as if he has one or two buddies, then you have a real problem. If you haven't structured the rules of how he learns to become a responsible driver, you're going to regret it.
...It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Driving without distractions is the biggest thing. Friends and cell phones are why id worry.

Exactly! Rules and responsibilities. Take the time and create a (short) list of driver responsibilities and your own rules about his behavior as a driver then see to it that he absorbs it all.
But you've probably already done that. [wink]
Thanks for the input Zonie. My wife and I have structured the rules for him tobe a responsible driver. I trust him but I remember when I was 18 and got my lic. My son will be okay but it's kind of exciting and scary at the same time.
Agreed. My first car accident was my fault because I was watching two very cute girls walk down the street and accidently hit another car. The girls just giggled and walked away....
In Virginia all newly minted drivers can only have one other non-family person in the car at any time. They are also bared from using any time of electronic devices while driving except the car radio. Not sure how many teens follow these laws but if your caught by the cops they automatically lose their lic for 6 months and have to appear before a judge to get it back.
Ya. Same exact laws in Illinois. I think they are good laws.
id say yes. in South Dakota we start at 14 and lets just say there is not a lot of paying attention when theres friends and loud music and nothing to do.. thankfully ive never been in a wreck lots of my friends have though
Curious why he's you're No. 3 son. Any chance of a bump in the rankings?
