im not standing up for the comparison. at all. im just saying throwing negativity at the comparison can easily be off set by what i said as well. p.s. i didnt even read the comment i just quoted
Who would you replace Bo with he were fired?
Stoobie makes a very good point in his comparison to TO and the state of college football and society today. Just curious on who you would like to see lead us to a National Championship in a 5 year span if Bo were gone tomorrow.
Bo has my support, for now, and I like where we are headed. I don't like being blown out ever especiailly on national TV in a CCG and that has to stop. I am intersted to hear how you would like to see our fortunes change.
Lando won't be answering this. He's a busy man.

How muxh time should we give Bo? A decade? Aren't we rolling into year 6 this season?
It's good to be the King.
So the fanbase before I was around was constantly all over T.O., whom was light years ahead of Pelini, was a perfect group yet the current fans are a what have you done for me lately types? Histerical!
The crazy national tv blowouts against teams we should hang with is the primary reason fans are upset and they should be.
Goal in life is to make the Huskers Illustrated Hall Of Fame
Man it is the offseason and we have this thread.
A few things
1. Nebraska is about championships- at least conference which we have not won in quite some time
2. Callahan did leave Bo quite a bit of talent and Bo's best teams were with bills recruits
3. This thought of "we can't get anyone better than Bo" crap is stupid. I don't say this cuz I want Bo fired right now but please. To think that we can't get someone better is absurd.
4. To pay a coach top 14 in the country money and not expect great results is absurd. Bo is not a top 14 coach. We usually finish in the 20's.
5. Blowouts. Getting embarrassed like we have the past 2 years is ridiculous.
6. The big thing for me. We are heading into year 6. We must see legit progress. This will be somewhat difficult cuz our schedule is so freaking easy. Yeah we go to Michigan and have UCLA at home but it is a very easy schedule. Progress has to be seen. To me legit progress means
A conference championship
If no CC then a very good record and a bcs bowl win
Not progress cuz of our easy schedule
10-2 and no championship or bcs bowl.
11-1 no championship and a blowout in either the championship game or a bcs bowl.
Your opinions may differ but if a man makes over 8,000 a day and is the 14 highest paid coach then I expect (as we all should) some results and some legit progress.
cool picture from space
You are asking WAY to much bubba! Bo needs at least a decade before we can even consider critisizing him! ;)
This is true
I agree. The TO caparisons need to stop. You are talking about two completely different situations. TO took over a national championship team during a more unbalanced time period of college football. Bo took over a beat up program during a more balanced era of college football. IMO Bo has done a good job not great but good. However, its time for him to take this program to the next step. I'm confident he will.
The ability of people to keep re-hashing the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over is amazing.
Bo Pelini is not a success by the standards we hold dear as Nebraska fans. We need some conference championships and BCS appearances. Practically no-one disagrees with that notion, even the people who strongly support Bo.
Bo Pelini is not unsuccessful enough to get fired while averaging 10 wins a year with a clean program. People who think he needs to be or will be ousted under those conditions refuse to accept reality. It's not going to happen.
You can either hope Bo flops completely (a season or two with 6-7 losses) and gets himself run off or, hope that he turns the corner and gets the program back up to elite status.
In other words, you can either take an optimistic view of where the program goes from here, or take a pessimistic view. You don't need to quote a 1001 different stats about what has already happened to support your opinion, you just need to determine if you're going to take a positive or negative view about where we're were going from here.
I choose positive. While the program is not going forward in the manner I would hope, the notion that we're heading backwards is false. Bo needs a breakout year to calm the waters. What I find curious about these types of debates at this juncture is the failure to look quantitatively at what the 2013 season looks like.
A number of people think we could be undefeated when we face Michigan this year. Win or lose, we will be in good shape. Win, and you have a shot at the CC. Lose, then win out, and you're 11-1, out of the CCG, but likely a contender for a BCS berth.
We will have a 4 year starter at QB who is likely to have his best season yet. We'll have a good OL, and we'll have more play makers on the field at the same time since the days of Gill, Rozier, and Fryar. We'll have a defense that has some Alphonse and Gaston moments early on, but will likely be more
athletic overall than any defense Bo has had thus far, including 2009.
For me, being anything but optimistic at this point is senseless. And if you're going to be optimistic, there's no reason to keep re-hashing the failures of the past. That gets you nowhere.
Well said. Bo has been good, not great. The biggest thing keeping him from being great IMO was his lack of focus on recruiting his first few years. It appears he is making great strides in that department so I anticipate we will see the improvement everyone wants. Problem is, the new kids are young and what they need to be all conference players is the same thing no one wants to give Bo........ More time.....
Great post TUF.
Do I want to see Nebraska win some conference titles, go to some BCS bow games, and get back to National Championship status? Absolutely. We're one of the more prestigious programs in college football history.
However, TUF is right on the money. Pelini has done nothing to deserve to be fired. I have become less of a fan in the last two years than I was when we first hired him, but I think he's a very good coach and it'd be damaging to get rid of a guy with his record.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. There's a reason we had to hire Callahan after Solich. He was a last resort. No one wanted to come here with the expectations that were set. Every coach has a number going into a season. Even Nick Saban gets fired if Bama goes winless next year.
Bo's 2013 win number is probably 8. Even with the easy schedule. People say I have low expectations. My expectations are to keep it clean and honorary above all else. Top 25 finish each year and occasional BCS appearance. They're not low, they're realistic and prioritized.

We need an over/under on these kind of threads. We'll set it to the first day of Fall Camp.
Ill take these over Martinez threads of a few years ago all day every day
I would be happy to make a Martinez thread.
And I am old enough to remember the talk that "TO was no Bob Devaney", and "He belongs in the press box, he isn't HC material".
We've seen programs fishing and fishing and fishing. AtM comes to mind. I, for one at least, am not willing to kiss every frog that comes along hoping for Princess Charming. And that is exactly what the "Fire Bo" crowd is hoping for, apparently.
