In regards to the Cotton boys....the people who dismissed Ben are idiots. He was a legit prospect with legit BCS offers. Jake did not have those. Furthermore....don't jump off the deep end on him proving his capabilities. He hasn't done anything but look good in a spring game. (Do I need to remind you of your spring game/1 practice stance). Jake could and very well probably end up being a good player. But he aint done squat yet.
No one is dismissing anyone here because they are young. They are acknowledging that these guys haven't proven anything yet and there is no experience at the position. They aren't saying they can't be good. They are saying that they've shown nothing to prove that they are good. And once again...you are playing both sides of the fence on the youth issue. You are quick to excuse lots of the issues this year because of inexperience but here you are saying that we shouldn't dismiss players because they are young and that they can't contribute.
Young players can absolutely make an impact. But as of now...they are still unproven commodities. What if Sutton blows a knee in practice before 2013. You are left with nothing but walk-ons (and Barry will have very little playing time at that time) and freshmen at the position. Not a recipe for success. Heck...even with Sutton healthy...it's not a great situation.
As far as Reed, a good number of people knew how talented he was.

Good points... Man i miss Dreu Young. He could have been special at the TE position. We got to get out and get at least two TEs for next class... the pass catching time. Ben Cotton is a legit TE the other Cotton's the verdict is still out on... Honestly though I think Sam looks similar to Ben in his High School film, maybe not as big.
Why Dreu Young? We've had 3 tight ends better than him in the last 3 years.
he would have added depth at the position. He was a good TE. I agree that Sam and Kyler are better but if Young was around there wouldn't have been much of a drop off when Ben got injured... and there definitely was a drop off.
No offense...but thats pretty ridiculous. You can say that about any position. Young graduated a few years back...it's part of college football.
Jake was the #1 option at RG throughout most of FALL camp as well. If he isn't nicked up he may have started. I'd say he was more than ready to prove himself and another off-season will only make him better.
What if? Hell, you can always say what if, about almost every position. Stuff happens and then you deal with it, but you don't necessarily want to anticipate it.
I'd prefer to see what we have, not what we don't have.
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
He wasn't #1 through most of fall camp. Secondly...being ready to prove himself is not the same as proving himself.
Yes you can. Maybe an added recruit wouldn've been a bust. When you go in underscholarshipped or extremely young you decrease the odds of competent play at a position. When you are both, the odds drop even more. The point is about being as prepared as you can be. We aren't. You don't necessarily want to anticipate it, but you NEED to anticipate it.
The problem with your approach is that when you see what we have and you don't like it or see what we don't have and need it....it's too late to do anything about it.
