I like to think that the $EC hype is just that, hype, but when programs are paying their freaking assistants $3.85 mil a year, how do you keep up?? That's more than, what, 95% of the head coaches in the country??
Just sick man.
ESPN reported 1.28 million. Still WAY more than anyone outside of the SEC pays, but not $3.85.

that's ridiculous, but believe me... Alabama can "afford" it. It's like the mob down there, and I'm not joking.
I saw just over a mill as well don't think it was that high
Sorry, it was an AP "report" on Twitter. I sure hope they got it wrong, I about fell out of my chair when I read it.
I don't get why this is such crazy stuff, if anything the B1G should be paying these 'outrageous' contracts. It's not like the B1G programs don't have the money.
We make like $56-62M in revenue off Football every year. Now that number is going to grow to like 75-80M a year when Delaney reups the TV contracts and we have paid our buy-in.
We have a bounty of multi-millionaire boosters as well who if we were winning real things outside of those darn rootin tootin Div Titles would gladly fork over $250k here, $775k there and so on down line.
Money isnot a problem, for anyone in B1G but the conference sucks and these programs are worried about idiotic things that don't help their sports programs, well besides Ohio State who would drop 25M a year on salaries if Urban said so, as they should.
Why does the SEC have 8 straight Titles, six teams finishing in Top 10 of polls, Heisman Winners nearly every year now, six-seven Top 10 recruiting Classes every year ? ... Because money talks, they pay their coaches top $ and if those guys don't produce - fired... They pay their athletes 25-100K to sign with them.
Either get on board in todays game or STFU about how it's 'not fair'... You wanna win ? You gotta pay.
Bamboo, or else...
Agree with Panda. It's where things are headed. Everyone wants to complain about the SEC. They've won the past number of titles for a reason. Get with the times Huskers
I agree with you to a certain extent, but your numbers are a bit skewed. That football revenue is basically going to subsidize all other sports, none of the others make money. We could get into the title 9 discussion and what a joke it is, but that's a topic for a different day.
However, I do fully agree with you, that we are NOT one of the programs that should be cheap with coaches like we are. Bo's salary is very respectable (another argument for a different day), but I would like to see his assistants stay, prove themselves, win a championship or two, then get substantial raises!
Kirby Smart also benefits from being on darn near every short list for coaching jobs that come open. Getting mentioned for other jobs never hurts getting checks.
Just ask Bo....
The AD will open up the checkbook for Bo if he wanted a better staff but he is ok with what he has.
It's good to be the King.
I am too at this point. Very young OC and DC and we need some continuity, we can't have a revolving door at those spots.
Bo should be the DC... Papuchis should be a recruiter and title holder and that's about it.
That's what Papuchis is already, Bo calls the Defense, Bo makes the D gameplans, Papuchis makes 375,000 to help Kaz and recruit.
I could not agree more!! All these reports about how each BIG school is going to make north of 50 Mil a year and we pay everyone like we are the Big East. Pay better coaches, get better players and win more games/championships.
I know that... I was responding to someone saying we have a young up and coming DC... we don't... we have Bo and an understudy.
I guess I don't see that as a problem right now. Bo will NOT hire someone who will not run his defense, but if he can take JP and mold him into what he wants and have similar success that Bo has had in the past, why not? Especially if Beck continues to grow and get the offense to improve year after year, which he has done to date.
I have no problem with it... I think it's the way it should be. Bo's a good DC, and now that he trust Beck with the offense I would be surprised if he doesn't turn 100% of his attention back to the D. We need it, especially with a young defense.
Yeah, I think it's the right call as of now too. Let Beck do what he does and let Bo do what he does and let JP grow into the role.
