There have been other posts on here involving baseball and the Royals. I know there are some like me who have suffered through season after season of losing. Not this year. Alex Gordon continues to make his early case as a darkhorse MVP. The real MVP of the team is James Shields. I have never witnessed one guy on a team have the effect he's had. He has changed the whole attitude of the team. If you enjoy exciting baseball, look no further. 11 come from behind wins already. I know its early, but it looks like these guys will be in it until the end.
Nicely stated. Everything I've heard about Shields is that he's a natural leader in the clubhouse, despite his young age, and the collective team attitude has done a 180...they now expect to win, every single day. I hope Gordo gets his due recognition this year, as he's truly earned it. Now if Moustakis can just get in the groove...
Maybe this is the year for small-market teams, with the Pirates doing well so far.
Would be nice to see the Royals and the Cubs in the World Series. Ya right, like that's going to happen.
1. Loving Gordon's play these days -- Hard not too.
2. Praying Hosmer and Moose get it together and become consistent contributors.
3. Yost is killing me at times. Holland today was one of those times.
4. Looking forward to the Orioles series to see how we match up.
5. Really mad we didn't sweep the CWS. See #3.
As soon as I saw Holland coming in I started cussing at the tv. Why Yost didn't let Shields finish the game baffles me.
Greg Holland has cost this team at least 3 games already. I miss 2008-09 Soria
No love for the yankees and Joba?
Not only that, but to keep Holland in there through all of that. Let Herrera come out and burn a few guys. Holland was struggling with his slider -- There was no reason to keep him in the duration if he can't get his #2 pitch online.
Here's the thing about Shields... the gains you've seen in KC have been directly correlated to the losses seen in Tampa Bay this season. The Rays' bullpen has cost them too many games already, and I believe that not having James in the clubhouse as well as not having him out there going 7 or 8 innings every 5th day is a big reason why.
Congrats to the Royals - they got not only a great pitcher, but a great leader as well.
It sure seems that way. James has a way of commanding the mound when he's out there, you can tell it's HIS game and the guys love it. He is the first TRUE ace we've had since Kevin Appier. I don't include Grienke in that club because he was a nut-job and the players didn't have his back like they do James', Grienke was a quitter and a jackass.
This series in Baltimore is an important one, tough to see them give one away last night. Good news is, we've being playing tough teams the last couple of weeks and Detroit has been feasting on teams like Houston and we're just 1.5 back.
Bottom line though, they need Moose and Hos to hit and if they are still right there at the break, they need to look to get an upgrade in RF and maybe 2B, although I like what I see from Elliot Johnson at times.
